My Wardrobe Today - Wednesday

Chambray shirt - Target (similar)
Leather skirt - Halogen (similar)
Ankle boots - Miss Sixty "Jaiden"
Leather cuff - boutique in Rehoboth Beach
Silver cuff - UTAC
Other bracelets - eBay

As you know, I am on the search for a leather skirt. I didn't really want a classic pencil, since I have a size 10 one from the Gap circa 2005 that is waiting for me in a couple months when I fit it again. However, I saw this one on the Nordstrom site for a hair over $100 and knew that was a pretty awesome price for a solid buttery soft lambskin (no cheap piecing, no heavy football leather). I'm not sure about it - I think it's a bit big, and the waistband rolls over too easily. I would link to it, but Nordstrom ended up having it out of stock the day after I ordered and they didn't reply to my Tweet when I asked if it would get back in stock.

I decided to try a couple new red lipsticks for fall, got a couple drugstore brands so I didn't invest a ton into something I may chicken out in actually wearing. I did a bunch of online research on popular reds, and the Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Lipstick in Top Tomato sounded right up my alley - long wearing, not too pink, not too orange, not too wine. I will be doing a full review after a couple of wearings, but so far so good! While it's drying and makes my lips stick together a bit, it is still on strong at noon after drinking coffee, eating a banana, and just consuming lunch of soup, a piece of baguette and an apple (not cut up, eaten right off the core). Impressive!

Tonight we have a happy hour to celebrate one of our favorite clients, who is retiring. A little get together at a nearby restaurant. Some may find it crazy for me to wear leather to such an event, but I don't think this look is any more wild than many of the ensembles I usually wear and this client sees me in. It's me, I love black leather, and I knew I could survive a 12-hour day in these shoes!

  3. Gurl you are quick on the draw! FIRST!!! :) Thank you, I thought it was a fun combination! And having a toddler in the house, for the life of me I can't find my big silver cuff. This leather baby has been getting a lot of play and I really like it. I think it adds a bit of toughness to my normally work-appropriate classic looks!

  4. Love the outfit and I think a leather skirt like this is perfectly fine for a work event!  I got a quite nice leather skirt from Talbot's that I will certainly be wearing to work.

  5. I am so thrilled leather is back in such a big way. I think it's very elegant, and I love being able to wear unique textures and materials for day. I remember back in the late '90s I practically wore a piece of leather every single day - with denim, with cashmere and merino sweaters... I can see myself going back to that!

  6. Thanks, now I don't have to steal yours!

  7. I am drooling with envy over the skirt, believe me. What stops me from taking the plunge is the prospect of the cleaning bill . . . how often, if ever, do you need to professionally clean a leather skirt? Or is there something you can do at home to keep it looking new?

  8. I hardly ever clean my leather. It's lined, I wear undergarments and take care to not spill on them. I also wear a blouse tucked in or a layer underneath so my skin/oils/sweat don't get on the waistband. I have a leather cleaner from Coach that I have used for spot cleaning, but I can only think of a handful of times over the years that I have had my leather professionally cleaned. I have leather skirts that are over a decade old that have yet to be cleaned. :)

I wear Revlon ColorStay exclusively - and it stays on through getting my teeth cleaned!

  12. Thanks mamacita! I like to show a bit of my rocker side from time to time!

  13. Cute outfit. I like the rough edge of the black leather skirt and accessories and the denim shirt, but it is in a classic silhouette so it works! Can't wait to hear your lipstick reviews because I have been into wearing it more often lately!

  14. I love the skirt!  But do you not find the denim-leather combination too casual?  I'd love to see the shirt with your emerald shirt and animal print pumps to see how the leather comes across in a slightly more formal combo!

  15. Nice - Target chambray?  I was thinking Lands End Canvas.  I like the look.  I think the accessories added a nice punch.  Pushed the edgy vibe

  16. That sounds like a fun combo! May be a bit too flashy for work (most of my teammates show up in chinos and I am already seen as the dressy one), but that would make for a gorgeous date night or social affair sort of outfit! Thanks!

  17. It does look very LEC! I got it from Tarjay this summer from the Merona line for $19.99. I saw it on DWJ on the blog The Art of Accessories and had to get it myself! :)

Very cool look, Allie! And I am also *forever* on the lookout for a long-lasting red lipstick. Keep us informed.

  19. Thanks Allison!  I didn't have to reapply until around 2pm; found it looks better over time with a layer of balm over it.  But full review soon!

  20. After wearing it today I bet it does!  Amazing stuff!

  21. Kind of kinky! I like it. And my long-lasting red of choice is Lasting Lust by MAC.

  22. Will do... though after 13 hours and still having red lips that aren't like sandpaper I think this is a winner!

  23. Kinky? Is it terribly that I like that adjective? ;) Will have to try that, since you ARE the queen of red lips!

  25. OBSESSED with this outfit! The leather and chambray is perfection! If I had a killer leather skirt like that I would recreate in a second!

  26. Leather and denim is such a kickass combo! I really like how the pencil skirt makes it look a bit more grown-up!

  27. That skirt is perfection! I love it. I have been on the hunt for a black leather pencil skirt but I've got that dang budget, so I am hoping to find a vintage option on Etsy or Ebay...

Love Revlon Colorstay lipsticks! They really do last!

  28. This one grew so much while wearing that I was able to slip it off at the end of the day without unfastening. I am between this one and the one that fits me like yours seems to. Bah!

  29. This lipstick totally impressed me. I will have to go back for more colors!

  30. It looks amazing, especially with the denim shirt. I cant fasten my leather pencil skirt at the moment which is so annoying as I love it!

Oh, I love this.  I just thrifted a leather pencil skirt and have a similar top so I think I'm going to try this.  You look wonderful!

  32. Excellent thrifting scores! And thank you!

  35. Now this is how you do casual rocker chic!  I love it from the bag to the booties!  Girl, you are looking hawt!  This whole look is on-point!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thanks so much! I could see you rocking a similar look, but you would have a blouse with a more feminine look. That's a sign of great style - I can totally see the YOU version of my outfit! Keep being fabulous!

  37. Rock it girl! I'm still searching for leather shorts :)

  38. Nordstrom Rack has some from Trouve for a super low price... shoot looked online and they don't have them any more but they may have them in-store! They are a short version and looked very cute!
