For the next three days, two of my staff are out of the office. While we have systems in place to keep things running smoothly, it was a bit daunting this morning thinking about the rest of the week. I feel that clothing can be a suit of armor, and I decided to dress pretty professionally to steel myself against the craziness I may be dealing with. So far, so good, great other folks on the team who are helping to keep everything going great!

I have been wanting a peplum top, but each one I have tried makes me look like Judy Jetson's aunt. I was happy to find this softer peplum at Ann Taylor, and that it also is made of Ponte knit. It's a good match to other ponte pieces in my wardrobe (like this skirt I've owned for a while), and I like it with pants as well as skirts.

WOW! You rock a peplum, Alison! You are 100% gorgeous! As killer as your outfits are, it’s your sparkly eyes and incredible smile that are always the best finishing touches to your style. My best :). You are a very pretty lady.

  • JJ September 14, 2012

So, I saw this outfit and said “hey, that looks awesome on her!” Wait, Ann Taylor is having a sale … wait, I totally have that Halogen skirt in multiple colors, wait, I have peep toes … and thus, I am the proud owner of a new peplum top. Thanks for the inspiration, as always, Allie. Love your blog and your unique voice

  • Kimberlee VDW September 13, 2012

Gorgeous! That’s how you peplum 🙂

  • Lissy September 13, 2012

I love everything about this outfit. I love a peplum, you look so svelte and the bag is beautiful!

  • Katie September 13, 2012

Allison you look fabulous! This silhouette is so classic but you have added your own bit of modern flair with the peplum top and the peacock blue colors. You look like a million bucks!

  • Sally McGraw September 13, 2012

Glorious! And that really is an amazing peplum top – well played, my friend.

  • Anne Bronte September 13, 2012

Gorgeous! I love a peplum that doesn’t scream PEPLUM!

Also, you’re looking skinny! (I hope that’s not annoying. I’ve fought my weight for 42 years and know that sometimes it can be weird when people tell you that. Like you didn’t look great before. Which of course you always do. Anyway, I hope you know what I mean!)

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen September 13, 2012

LOL thank you. I think one reason I look skinny is because I have been too busy to properly eat meals. Hopefully things will calm down soon so I can look skinny from eating the right things and exercising!

  • Lisa A Walter September 13, 2012

This is such an elegant peplum. I love the simple clean lines, a dash of peplum but not ‘in your face’.

  • alice September 13, 2012

Wow, I always thought peplums looked either costumey or childish, but this looks seriously amazing and elegant on you! Love the simplicity of this outfit.

  • Deirdre September 13, 2012

I was struck in this post by how your always pretty face lights up when your daughter is near. You look just beautiful.

  • Heather September 13, 2012

I love this whole look. You look great!

  • rebecca September 13, 2012

,,,your look is fabulous! my favorite and a must have, the black peplum top,,,

  • Cat September 13, 2012

Judy Jetson’s aunt, LOL! Really gorgeous outfit.
I’d like to order the peplum-can you give some guidance on the size?
I’m a petite 36DD, not sure if I should go with petite L or medium regular.

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen September 13, 2012

I’m a 36DD as well and usually wear a 12 petite in Ann Taylor’s stretchier items and am wearing a Large Regular. I went regular for more length in the torso and also figured it would have more room in the shoulders.

  • Thrift store mama September 13, 2012

Love this outfit – look how many comments ! I LOVE a peplum. I find them to be really flattering

  • Unsub September 13, 2012

You look great! I love you in shoes like this that lengthen your leg line. I think booties cut you off too much, but I love that you rock them with confidence!

  • Happinessatmidlife September 13, 2012

I felt the same way about peplum tops until I was able to find one that didn’t flare out as much. I picked up the floral one during the AT sale. This knit one is adorable!

  • Meg September 12, 2012

This outfit has finally prompted me to comment. Love, love, love the entire ensemble. You are rocking’ this one girl- nice proportions, and the colors are great on you. The peplum is very flattering, and the shoes and bag add the purfect textural contrasts to the knit.

  • MJ September 12, 2012

I love that it has sleeves. I have seen a few cute ones, but they were all sleeveless, and putting a cardigan over it ruins the line. You look fab lady!

  • Sharon September 12, 2012

This is a great outfit! Glad to hear the day went well.

  • Hems for Her, a.k.a. Katie September 12, 2012

I love the black with the bright blue, and of course I am crazy about peplum 🙂

  • Jax September 12, 2012

One of your most slimming outfits. Nicely flattering and minimalist!

  • Kristin Hodnett September 12, 2012

Love it! I’ve been looking for professional plus size pieces in ponte – any suggestions?

  • Karen Hogan September 12, 2012

This is a great look. I love the peplum. Although I’m really jealous of Emerson’s turquoise sneakers.

  • SE September 12, 2012

I seldom comment, but had to tell you this is such a fantastic outfit on you. Simple, flattering, wow! And I want to run right out and get that top (although I think peplums might be a little young for the over-50 crowd).

Emerson is so cute- but I’m having a hard time not getting teary looking at her. My daughter just left for college… and her favorite thing at that age was dress-up. I still have the tiaras and wands and tutus…it’s a wonderful age.

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen September 12, 2012

Thank you so much for coming out and commenting! And I don’t think a soft peplum like this is too trendy to be just for certain ages!

  • Steph September 12, 2012

THis look suits you so well. Love the peplum!

  • Catherine September 12, 2012

So cute!!! I love peplum – but I haven’t found any that works for me this season. I love Ann Taylor and will definitely have to try this top. Love that turquoise tutu too! 🙂

  • highfashion4less September 12, 2012

    love this look on you!

  • PinQueenCity September 12, 2012

Love the peplum, it looks so fab on you! I just recently tried them out myself and I must say I loved the style. Luckily it looks like it will stay around for next spring too!

  • fashionforgiants September 12, 2012

That is the perfect peplum. And it looks better on you than on the model.

I haven’t gotten into the peplum trend yet because I haven’t been able to find one I’ve liked; I might have to check this one out though.

  • Southernliberal September 12, 2012

So classy! And “ditto” on the great colors.

  • Laurel Walker September 12, 2012

Ponte knit peplum top?! That looks amazing on you! That’s so versatile! Sooold!!! (Except on the price.) If I was a rich girl, na-na-nananana-na-na-na…

    Emerson’s tutu is kickin’.

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen September 12, 2012

Yeah, I got it when they had 30% off 🙂 They always have promos like that, hang tight I bet there will be another in the next month or so! And isn’t her tutu the best? $5 at Old Navy!

      • Laurel Walker September 12, 2012

DEALS!!! Oh, how I love deals!!! I will definitely be keeping an eye on Miss Ann Taylor… my workwear desperately needs to be updated. I still look like a kid playing dress up, even after two and half years on the job.

P.S. My hubs told me you checked out his blog and THANK YOU. He was so excited that he got his first comment and you really, really boosted his confidence and excitement level.

  • Catherine Harper September 12, 2012

This is a gorgeous outfit and really elegant. I love the peplum look and it is so flattering on you.

  • racheliacovou September 12, 2012

I am not generally a peplum fan, but that top looks lovely on you! You are also looking very slim.

  • Cynthia Washburn September 12, 2012

The whole outfit is amazing – but I love that color blue on you. And – may I ask which bracelet is the blue one that you’re wearing? I’d love to get one like that!

  • ASuburbanLife September 12, 2012

This outfit is SOOOO flattering on you!

  • Une femme September 12, 2012

    That’s a great looking top!!

  • Briana M. Walsh September 12, 2012

I think this is one of my favorite looks on you ever! The whole look – outfit, hair, and makeup – is perfection!

  • Sonia September 12, 2012

You look absolutely smashing in that figure flattering ponte outfit! Love the peep toes too!! Your hair looks nice and wavy and bigger; what products did you use to achieve that?
LIttle Emerson is the essence of pastel rainbow colors–sugar and spice and everything nice.

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen September 12, 2012

I washed my hair last night; usually after I put in Neil George Detangling Spray, a shine serum, Frizz-Ease Light or some combination. I forgot to do any of them so it dried naturally. In the morning I had some major volume but a bunch of frizz so I took pieces with the curling iron, curling away from the face, covered with a mist of Neil George Detangling Spray, let it dry and finger combed. The last picture is actually the first one taken so you can see how the curls started to relax once outdoors 🙂

  • Elizabeth September 12, 2012

Your look great in this outfit. One of your best! 🙂

  • CLL September 12, 2012

Cute look and the peep toe patent leather pump is darling. So is the little princess and her tiara standing next to you!
