Dress: c/o Dobbin Clothing | Necklace: c/o Lydell NYC | Shoes: Boutique 9

I can't believe this is the first time I have worn this fabulous dress on the blog. I have shared it on Instagram and worn it several times, but just not on here. I even wore it to speak on a panel of journalists because it looks so great, so sophisticated, and still so comfortable. Well this dress totally deserves a moment in the sun, even though it was photographed on a drizzly day. The dress is the “Belle” from Dobbin Clothing, and it's one piece from their amazing collection of well-crafted wardrobe workhorses. Dobbin Clothing specializes in clothing that works as hard as you do – flattering fits, primarily washable clothing, and designer quality. This dress is from ponte knit and has seaming that makes my body look phenomenal. This is a size 12 and it fits great. Right now this dress is on sale, Dobbin Clothing offers free shipping both ways, and right now if you use the code FIRSTTIMEVISITOR you get 20% off your entire order! Oh, did I mention that Dobbin Clothing is made in the USA right in New York's Garment District?

With such a great dress, I kept things pretty simple. This is a favorite necklace of mine that hasn't gotten much play lately; I decided to amp it up with bold lips and high heels but keep everything else simple. Oh yeah, and a lovely addition of rain beads on my hair and dress!  Rain drops keep falling on my head… during photo shoots!

I love when a great company also makes a great product, and that's what I experience with Dobbin Clothing. I know this sounds like a hard sell, do know they sent me the dress without any expectations. All that I wrote here is because I honestly feel it and didn't get paid to state it, I just really dig this dress and the company.

I now know why you love ponte fabric so much. The dress looks great.

This dress fits you perfectly! Super chic and great for speaking on a panel… demands attention 😉

I’ve always thought that black looks super on you and this dress is especially stunning. I’m trying to analyze why black looks so great on you and so awful on some folks. Black can be so depressing and funerary but on you it looks downright cheerful and bright. I don’t understand the contradiction. Maybe it’s your beautiful skin and 10,000 watt smile. Any thoughts?

Can’t go wrong with a little black dress for day!

  • Southernliberal January 16, 2013

I must grab this one before it’s gone! Glad to know the regular is not terribly long. That necklace is the bomb!

    • Southernliberal January 16, 2013

Well, pooh! It is already out of stock. 🙁

  • Happiness At Mid Life January 16, 2013

Every woman needs a couple LBD and this one fits you so well. I love how your necklace pops against it!

  • Brynn January 15, 2013

Allie, I have been following your blog for about two years now, and I have to say this is my favorite look you’ve ever put together! That dress is perfect and gorgeous, and fits you like a glove! I love it. The all-black streak you’ve been on lately suits you well 🙂

  • Jessica Gold Newman January 15, 2013

Allie: We love this dress on you! Just wanted to say that if anyone has any questions about sizing, just email me at jess@dobbinclothing.com. Thanks!

  • Meagan Kyla January 15, 2013

Love this look! I love how your necklace ‘pop’ against the dress. I think a belt at the waist seam would look awesome, just for different look!

  • fashionforgiants January 15, 2013

That is a great dress; looks perfect on you!

  • info January 15, 2013

What a wonderful classic dress. It fits you perfectly.

  • Patti_NotDeadYetStyle January 15, 2013

Great classic dress, Allie. And the necklace is a stunner.

  • Jenny January 15, 2013

Fantastic, chic outfit! More wacky sizing stuff: Love the dress by I have a very long torso and it looks pretty high-waisted. Any thoughts on whether it might work for someone like me? It might be worth the gamble given their free shipping both ways if it doesn’t work out….

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen January 15, 2013

I’m not really sure Jenny, you may want to contact them. I know they’re great with Twitter communication and when I have emailed them they have gotten back to me quickly 🙂 This dress has a higher waist, it may end up being more like an empire waist on you.

  • Halo January 15, 2013

It’s a great dress–pity it doesn’t come in plus sizes. The seaming is really attractive, and it kind of lengthens your torso visually. I don’t know about you, but that’s something I look for, but then I am short-waisted.

FYI to you and other ponte lovers, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with Lands’ End’s ponte dresses. They run a little large, but come in all kinds of sizes and wear well. Also, they’re almost all on super sale right now. (I don’t work for Lands’ End!)

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen January 15, 2013

Lands’ End does make fabulous ponte! Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂

    • crtfly January 15, 2013

I love Lands End dresses. I have several and they make even me look good.

  • Karen Curtis January 15, 2013

You look great! This is a dress that you can add to in many ways. The colorful necklace is a winner!

  • Une femme January 15, 2013

It looks great on you! I’ve been eyeing the Dobbin Juliet dress for a while now, may have to take the plunge, especially with the discount.

  • Grace Mitchell January 15, 2013

Laughing at the previous comment, because I was about to say the opposite–several of the pieces on Dobbin’s site are tempting, but with on long lengths on offer, I know I’d be making a mistake!

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen January 15, 2013

The company isn’t huge (yet!) so I wouldn’t be surprised if they have extended sizes in the future! 🙂

  • Celia January 15, 2013

This dress is very tempting, but I am discouraged by the fact that Dobbin does not offer petite sizes. (I’m 5′ 4″). What’s your opinion on the given sizing as it works for you?

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen January 15, 2013

I’m 5’3″ and this dress fits me great. The bracelet-length sleeves help make it more versatile, but I find all the seaming is in the right places for me. The length is a bit long if I wanted to wear with boots, but is very on-trend for this spring especially with pointy pumps!
