Dress: Spruce & Sage c/o Gwynnie Bee | Shoes: Nine West “Flax” | Bracelet: Nordstrom | Bag: Hobo Bags (similar) | Cast Cover: c/o CastCoverZ! | Lipstick: NARS Red Square

Emerson said this dress looked like rose petals underwater. I said it reminded me of a Monet, she quickly agreed which freaked me out because we haven't really taught her that much about artists. A Monet fan in a past life? Besides the dress being a pretty print, it's pretty comfortable too. It's fully lined, but the lining is a bit stretchy and not as hot as a traditional acetate one. While this would look cute with a skinny belt or shoes in one of the great colors of the print, I decided to keep it simple with nude pumps and a fun little bracelet.  And this bag was a Hobo Sample Sale purchase that has given me years of happiness; it has a chain strap making it uber versatile and an unexpected classic.

This dress is a perfect example of why I love Gwynnie Bee; it's a pretty dress that I kept for more than one wear, but it's the type of dress I would purchase and then grow tired of before the season is through.  With Gwynnie Bee I can keep and wear as long as I wish and the return for a new dress to love!

Dress is NMS but looks lovely on you. On another note, I am down to one hand having hand surgery last week. I am sorry for what you are going through and couldn’t quite understand until now. Believe me folks, if you’ve never lost use of a main hand/arm, you really have no idea how difficult it is to manage. Allie you are a trooper and sending healing thoughts to you!

It’s funny how people will say things like, “well at least you still have one!” and you don’t realize how important a hand is until you’re down one. I wish you the best during your healing process! My favorite tip to share is to open a jar, put it on a rubber or silicone mat on the floor, grip with your feet, and you should be able to open with your other hand! <3

This look is flawless, one of your best and most flattering. I’m a size 10 and, like a lot of curvier gals, I gravitate toward some retro silhouettes but am always afraid of looking too costume-y. This is a really good blend of old-school figure flattery and polish and with a more modern cut and print.

I love the dress. But there’s something more here, you’re really glowing in this post.

So, so pretty – I love prints like this. xo

Wow, Emerson’s understanding of art goes deep! The Monet reference is impressive, but even the comparison to flower petals in water is a pretty amazing. Either way, you do, indeed look great. That Hobo Bag clutch is a really perfect touch.

Count me in with those who think your hair is fab and the dress is made for you. I love it!

  • N. L. July 31, 2014

This is one of my favorite dresses and the color/print is fabulous on you. I can’t wait to see more posts from you and here’s to getting that cast off soon (sooner than later).

What a wonderful dress! I love the style and the print. You look so great in this dress.

It does remind me of Monet’s work. He is one of my very favorites but I sure hadn’t heard of him at E’s age. I wouldn’t have known who or what a Monet is. The only artists I knew of then were the ones my Mom liked and talked about. If E thought that the dress looked like rose petals under water, with that level of sensitivity and perception maybe she is a new iteration of Monet.

I don’t think she knows any artist by name except Georgia O’Keeffe but she has a book about her and there’s a poster of her on a motorcycle in our downstairs bath. Knowing her at this age, she probably readily agreed to look smart and mature 😉

I also love the hair — And a dress with pockets? *swoon*

    • Karen July 31, 2014

oops, just realized that’s not a pocket. It’s your cast. But it matches so well! We’ll keep hoping for dresses with pockets. 🙂

This dress is lovely on you! I love your entire look…picture perfect! 🙂

  • Ginger July 31, 2014

    You look great!
I’d always wonder if I should put a belt with a dress like that, but looking at you I don’t think it’s necessary, plus it’d be sliding around all day needing adjustment.

I have a Hobo bag in a similar style that I got someplace years ago. They’re expensive but do a pretty good job of remaining relevant over time.

    • Allie at Wardrobe Oxygen July 31, 2014

Thanks Ginger! And yes, as soon as I put it on I went to my belt rack, but it looked dressier without one (and a lot less complicated!). And I agree regarding Hobo, they aren’t cheap but they are styles that don’t date like other brands, they’re well made, and I love that they’re based in Maryland 🙂

Thank you! Each new skill is so exciting with this cast, I can now maneuver a round brush and dryer to smooth out my hair and this morning I put in my contacts! Oh the small things that bring so much joy!

also, love the freudian slip/truth in the typo in Moet v. Monet. I mean, i would *expect* your daughter to know about champagne 😉

  • DebH July 31, 2014

Is there a GB option for the non-plus size girl?

  • DC Celine July 31, 2014
