Gwynnie Bee reached out to me and a couple other bloggers to style a piece from their latest collaboration with fashion designer Amanda Uprichard. After years of honing her design aesthetic on the streets of New York and at Parsons, in 2005 Uprichard launched her eponymous fashion line from a basement in Queens. NYC party girl turned PTA mom, Uprichard channels her diverse experiences into her collection, each piece paying homage to a particular slice of her history. Uprichard says, “I draw inspiration from everyone. All kinds of women: doctors, writers, lawyers, sisters, cousins, moms, teenagers.” The A by Amanda Uprichard line for Gwynnie Bee captures the spirit of Amanda's esthetic with lively prints, bold colors, and silhouettes that are versatile and flattering. Uprichard chose favorite pieces directly from their current line and collaborated with the GB team to create the perfect collection for the Gwynnie Bee woman.

I was chosen to style the Cricket Maxi Dress in Blacklight Stripe (this is an XL, the dress is available from L-5X).  The dress is a poly stretch, not transparent, not clingy.  I'd say the XL fits like a 14; it's fitted in the bust but not tight and the armholes fit nice.  The 1X fit like a 16/18.  The armholes were gaping, the top waas longer so it bloused over the elastic waist, and the back of the dress was almost 2″ longer. I styled it for how I'd wear it in a few weeks when Mother Nature has her act together (it was 30 degrees this Sunday when we took these photos): a denim jacket for the spring breezes but a pair of strappy heels to show off the first pedicure of the season.  I'm a fan of pattern mixing and instead of a solid black or pink bag decided to amp up the look with my favorite colorful clutch.

The exclusive designer collaborations are one of many reasons I love being a member of Gwynnie Bee.  It's awesome to have a popular brand partner with a plus size company to work together to create clothing that is fun, fashionable, and for a plus size figure.  If you'd like to try Gwynnie Bee, use my affiliate link and try a month for free!

Ahh this looks so great! If I were nitpicking I would say I’m not 100% sold on the clutch with it – I like the idea of mixing prints but I think the clutch needs more black in the pattern to ‘ground’ it against the rest of the outfit? But I love the dress, and the strappy sandals are beautiful. Can’t wait for weather to warm up a bit here so I too can bust out my denim jacket!

This is the post that finally made me pull the trigger on GB. Crossing my fingers! I’ve got a girls’ cocktail evening at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo in a couple weeks, so hopefully this dress makes it in time. (It takes a while to mail stuff to my side of the globe, but I was pleasantly surprised that GB mails to overseas US military addresses.) And I also bought a few things from their clearance sale. They were *so* cheap, that as long as they are in still-wearable condition, it’s a steal!

Awesome! Gwynnie Bee is like most anything else – you get what you put in. Read the reviews, share your own, step outside your box and try unexpected silhouettes and brands. Sure I have some months where I return everything immediately or after one regretful wear, but most months I’m glad I have it and get pieces I can’t decide whether to keep and buy or return. And it has introduced me to new brands like Universal Standard and CityChic and helped me try before buying brands like ELOQUII that I thought wouldn’t fit!
