Gift guide family gifts for Christmas and other holidays
Oh there’s no place like home for the holidays… but it often requires buying a gift for a family you may not know well beyond Facebook updates and holiday card letters. This gift guide focuses on family gifts – something you can give a family, a couple, or even your own family and this gift guide has a variety of price points.

  • National Parks Pass: Nothing better than giving someone the gift of life experiences. This pass covers entrance fees at over 2,000 national parks, national wildlife refuges, and more. This pass covers entrance and standard amenity fees for a driver and all passengers in a personal vehicle. $80
  • Scratch Map: For the family that loves to travel, they can scratch off the countries they’ve visited to add color and learn factoids about geography. Two sizes to choose from. $32.00
  • Homesick Candles: For those who may have moved away, this is a cute way to bring a little of their hometown back to them. A different scent for every state (and California separated by Northern and Southern). They sound great, for example, my home state of Maryland smells like salt water, ginger, bay leaf, and thyme. $29.50
  • Framed Paper Cut Tree: a beautiful memento to recognize an immediate or extended family, this Etsy seller offers just the papercut in a multitude of colors or options to be placed in your choice of floating frame. Starting at $32.99
  • Create Your Own Reel Viewer: I saw this and just thought it was the coolest gift. Did you love your View-Master when you were a kid? Create a custom one with snapshots of the family, or provide someone the kit as a gift to customize on their own! $29.95
  • Fleece Family Blanket: Cozy soft fleece and the ability to silkscreen anything you desire on it. Add the family name, a family motto, or anything you desire. I chose this Etsy seller because I felt the price was nice for high quality (and found the “model” photos adorable), but Etsy has several sellers who offer personalized throw blankets of different fabrics, weights, embroidery, and more. $39.99
  • Personalized Map Napkins: Large cloth napkins customized with the street name and zip code of where someone lives, used to live, went to college, or anywhere else that has a sentimental value. I love encouraging families to choose cloth over paper not just for fancy meals but the everyday; these could really change a family’s habits to be greener in a fun way. $59.95
  • Family Fun Bucket List: Printed on a cute collection of birch wood sticks, the family fun-fostering prompts run the gamut from amateur astronomy (learn three constellations, then spend an evening stargazing) to encouragement to give back (volunteer as a family). Once you’ve shared each experience with your crew, note the date on the back of the stick with the official bucket list pencil (provided). Made in the USA. $18
  • Personalized Family Ornament: Sweet, personal, won’t collect dust or add pounds; an ornament, especially a personalized one, is always a great gift. While this one is for a family of four, this Etsy store has plenty more to choose from for families of all sizes, couples, new babies, and more. $17.50
  • Metal Family Sign: This sign can be customized with family name and initial and your choice of color. Great for hanging indoors or out. $39.95
  • Easy Ice Cream Maker: A fun family activity, this ice cream maker can provide a pint in just 30 minutes. $19.95 If you wish to personalize, consider a custom ice cream scoop to go along with it!
  • Utter Nonsense Family Board Game: Utter Nonsense is a card game where players combine silly accents with even sillier phrases to create sayings that are just plain ridiculous. Fun for ages 8 and up, this game continues to get rave reviews for being a lot of fun. $19.99
  • Personalized Chess Set: No matter this skill level, this will be a treasured gift that will be used and loved for years. $24.99
  • Personalized Ping Pong Paddles: Awesome for those who are fans of the game; however, if they don’t have a table, with this they can transform their dining table or any table into one!  $29.97
