chic plus sized loungewear: tips on where to purchase and plus size loungewear capsule wardrobes

We're coming up on a year of this ‘demic existence and it won't be over any time soon. If you're like me, you're sick to death of your fuzz-ball covered sweats and your dressy clothes hanging in your closet just make you ragey. I know what I've been wearing lately the most are loungewear pieces that feel good to wear. Nice fabrics, beautiful colors, silhouettes that are comfy but don't make me look like a throw pillow. Such items are hard to find, especially when plus sized.

I've been on the hunt for chic plus sized loungewear and have gathered some fabulous brands, silhouettes, fabrics, and colors for you to choose from. With each one, I will share the size range, and if there are other colors not featured.

Loungewear doesn't have to be soft unstructured knits. As long as a piece is comfortable, it can be loungewear. I love to mix a pair of leggings with a cashmere sweater, a beautiful blouse with a pair of joggers, a wrap dress over leggings. We've had a year of this existence, it's time to take what we've learned and expand our ideas on what is at-home fashion.

Sure, keep rocking your comfy sweats, leggings, and tees. But don't you think you deserve something nice to slip into after surviving the day, heck, this year? If you know of any chic plus sized loungewear that I haven't shared here, do share in the comments!

Casual and Chic Plus Sized Loungewear Capsule Wardrobe

This season has a lot of neutrals and muted jewel tones; at first glance it can all look like baby food, but in the mix are some luxe colors that combined look tres chic. Think camel with teal, clay with eggplant, pine with celadon, plum with dusty rose.

Taking the luxe colors camel and teal, I made this chic plus sized loungewear capsule wardrobe that mixes high with low.

Casual and cool plus size loungewear capsule

Shop the Capsule:
cashmere hoodie (sizes XXS-3X; five colors to choose from) | rock tee (sizes 1X-3X) | ponte belted jacket (sizes 16-24; link for same jacket in black) | off the shoulder sweater (1X-3X; three colors available; link for sizes XXS-XXL) | cashmere joggers (sizes XXS-3X; five colors to choose from) | sweatshirt dress (sizes 00-40; three colors to choose from) | sweater dress with pockets (sizes 10-28) | adjustable-length pendant | leggings (three fits based on body shape starting at size 14) | cardigan sweater (sizes XXS-3X; two colors to choose from)

It's so easy to resort to black, but why not try a capsule wardrobe based on colors instead of neutral? You likely already own plenty of black that you can add to extend the capsule; get outside the box with color to add joy and also a luxe feel to your existing closet.

Teal cashmere joggers can be worn with a band tee and a ponte belted jacket for a luxe alternative to sweats and a hoodie. Wear the dresses over the leggings and come spring, with bare legs. Upgrade your leggings to a buttery soft version made specifically for your curves. Whether or not you're wearing a bra at home, embrace your sensual side with an off the shoulder sweater. Let the (optional) bra strap show, or layer the sweater over a simple fitted tank.

Speaking of a fitted tank, add that or a slimline turtleneck to the belted jacket and leggings for a look that is perfect for morning coffee at the kitchen table or heading out into the world. Wear the rock tee with leggings and the cardigan, or style with your favorite jeans and a moto jacket if heading to the market. These are pieces you can feel fabulous in at home, but can also transition as the world also transitions.

Chic Plus Sized Loungewear Capsule Wardrobe: Black with Blues

While the last capsule is color, I am a fan of black, especially when the black clothing has cool architecture or texture. When mixed with pops of color and prints, black can feel fresh and quite luxe.

Shop the Capsule:
striped sweater (sizes XS-3X) | sisterhood t-shirt (sizes S-4X) | tank top (00-40; four colors available) | cashmere hoodie (XXS-3X; five colors available) | navy wide-leg pants (sizes 10-22) | zebra cardigan (one size fits 1X-3X; black also available) | navy shirtdress/duster (sizes 10-22) | black faux leather joggers (XS-3X) | black midi dress (1X-3X; link for XS-XL and petite) | black jumpsuit (14-24 in three shapes/fits) | chain necklace | zodiac scarf

For those who love the color black in their wardrobe, this capsule is for you. Choosing black pieces with interesting silhouettes or fabric, this look is far from boring. Choosing some classic prints (stripes and animal prints), a pop of blue, and some luxe accessories to pull it together, this is an at home capsule wardrobe that is functional while being fashionable and fun to wear.

The navy shirtdress/duster is a great look buttoned up over the matching pants, or consider wearing it unbuttoned like a jacket over the t-shirt and faux leather joggers. The pants would look great with the striped sweater, or with the tank and cashmere hoodie. Yes, you can wear navy with black; in fact, the combination is quite chic, especially when paired with gold jewelry.

Plus Size Colorful Two-piece Loungewear Sets

The world is on fire, so why is everything beige? Or black? Or heather gray? I personally find my outlook is sunnier when my outfit is a happy color. It's harder to find great color when you are plus sized, but I found some fun options:

Plus Size Casual Dresses

I love a casual dress for when I am at home. It's easy to move, it feels nice brushing against my legs when it's a great fabric, I can pair with leggings or not, and even better when it has pockets! I found a few dresses I either own or know to be great casual dresses for when at home:

Plus Size Loungewear Jumpsuits

For some, there is great appeal in one-piece dressing, and that doesn't have to just mean a dress. Jumpsuits, especially out of soft and stretchy loungewear fabrics, can be some of the most enjoyable pieces to wear when at home.

  1. Hey! I LOVE the Baacal wide-leg pull on pants, but they are out of most sizes (plus, a little rich for my budget). Do you have any ideas for alternatives for wide-legged, flowy pants that can actually be worn out of the house?
