Throwback Thursday to what I wore 10 years ago this month with the hottest song of August 2012 and is that… a bubble necklace?!?!

It’s so fun to see how my style has changed and how some things are still the same. While I won’t be rocking a bubble necklace any time soon, I still love stripes, pattern mixing, and distressed denim shorts! #wo2tbt

Latest challenge: golf! 🏌️‍♀️

This is the summer of trying new outdoor activities. I started the summer with rowing/sculling classes and am wrapping up August with trying golf for the first time!

I’ve never been to a driving range and haven’t even played mini golf since my teens. I even worked at a country club for many years as a lifeguard but never played. Today was my first class and it was so much fun!

So grateful to have friends like S in the last photo; we challenge each other to try new things and it’s fun to do them together. 👯‍♀️

It’s never too late and you’re never too old to try something new. (And it’s even better when you get to wear a fun outfit or use cool gear!)

Style hack: take that oversized oblong scarf you used to swirl around your neck a few years ago, drape over your shoulders and tie the ends around your wrist to create a shrug-style coverup. Great for dresses or to jazz up a simple tank and lightweight jeans on a summer day.

Additional style hack: you know those tiny gold safety pins that hold tags onto clothes? Use one on each shoulder seam of your tank or base layer to tack the scarf in place. I pinned inside the tank along the shoulder seam, grabbing the sewn hem of the scarf to not cause it to snag. This location will hold it invisibly in place without yanking on the scarf.

What to wear when it’s 100 degrees but you want to look polished?

My go-to is an @everbyx dress. Made from deadstock vegan silk, this dress can be a caftan, be styled with the included self-belt, or switch it up like I did here with a belt or scarf from your wardrobe.

This scarf is an extremely oversized square one I found at @hm way back in the ‘00s and have worn to many times over the years!

Summertime and the living’s easy… especially if you’re living in linen! @lovechicos no-iron linen shirt in the happiest green color and white linen sailor-inspired trousers from @talbotsofficial that have been on repeat since late spring. A bright pink lip and gold jewelry finish the look!

Sizing info: the pants are 14 petite (linen stretches so in doubt size down) and the shirt is a 3 so I could have a more relaxed fit (I’m usually a 2 or 2.5 in Chico’s). Sandals are @birkenstock and the lip is a @lauramercier pencil with @fentybeauty gloss over it for shine. 💄

Bring on the COLOR! 🌈

I bought a pair of @nooworks overalls in 2020 and wear them all the time. When I saw they collaborated with @zoeschlacter I knew I need to get another pair. As you can see I’m a fan of Zoe’s work, I have one of their pillows on my sofa!

The crocheted jacket I got on @etsy last summer and it’s the perfect warm weather layering piece. I love how it picks up all the colors in the overalls.

The tote is from @dagnedover and I also got it last year. Genius design with a place for everything (even my water bottle) and I love this orange color.

With such a bold look I kept accessories simple. Just a pair of white @birkenstock sandals and gold hoops (older from @lovechicos).

Consider this my out of office message…

I was going to write something pithy and charming but with today’s news it’s tough. But today is even more reason why I scheduled to have two weeks not just off work but off social media and the internet. My mini-sabbatical starts June 25th and I’ll be back July 11th.

You know the oxygen mask theory? In case of a plane emergency you are to put on your oxygen mask before assisting anyone else with theirs. It’s because you can’t truly be helpful if you yourself are struggling to breathe.

And it feels lately that I am struggling to breathe. To think, and process what is going on and how to act and react. So I scheduled some time away to find breathing room.

I’ll miss connecting with you, but I bet you’re feeling a bit of this yourself, especially after today’s SCOTUS ruling. If you can find some, any time to disconnect, to breathe… please take it. It’s not selfish, it’s self care.

We all need to rest because we’re nowhere near done fighting. Take a breather, disconnect, and rest. Because the world needs you to be strong.

She’s not even going to see this because she’s a smart person who deleted the Instagram app but I’m really lucky to have S as a best friend.

I met her in 2002 I believe at a State Trooper bull roast. We were both friends with the spouse of a trooper but had not met before. We ended up in line for the bar at the same time and found a mutual love for Paris and Malibu with Sprite. We found out we lived in the same town, though at different times and went to the same college with the same major. We became instant friends.

I only knew her a couple of months and asked her to be a bridesmaid in my upcoming wedding. Other than my sister (who is also besties with S) she’s the only bridesmaid I still keep in touch with. Our friendship only grew over the years, through trials and tribulations and adulthood.

Two weekends ago K and I celebrated our wedding anniversary with a weekend staycation in DC double date with S and her husband and the four of us had such a great time. While we no longer drink Malibu with Sprite, we still know how to have fun together!

S taught me how to be a friend; before her I had intense friendships with women that crashed and burned. I’m so grateful she’s in my life and love this photo of us from that anniversary weekend! 🥰

And since I know there will be questions: my dress is old @target, hers is @amourvert my hat is @bananarepublic hers is @lovechicos and my bag is @talbotsofficial!
