Weekend Reads for July 18-19
Yesterday I went to see The Odyssey at the theater with my husband. We came back, had a lovely dinner… and I forgot to finish weekend reads. Especially in summer, life happens. I hope your life happens this weekend.
And yes, I liked The Odyssey, and I am glad I saw it in a theater. I think it benefits from a big screen.

Style Inspo & Sale Alert
Midi, an online e-health site specifically for women in midlife, is known for offering perimenopause medications (hello estrogen in stock) plus other treatments for hairloss, sexual wellness, and more. Midi also offers its own line of supplements and it is currently having a bundle sale. 25% off subscriptions, or 15% off one-time purchases. Midi offered me a bundle, and I chose the Brain Fog option (my peri sisters, you know why). I liked how the creatine was not only gummies (easier for busy mornings and travel), but includes fennel seed which counteracts the bloat that many experience with creatine. I haven't tried the others yet because I need to factor in the supplements I'm already taking and adjust; but if you're not taking supplements right now this is a good combo with good ingredients.
Lo&Sons has a flash sale this weekend only with 50% off the Catalina collection.
ELEMIS is offering a FREE 3-piece gift (worth $121) with any full-size purchase using code CLEANSE. Featuring a full-size Dynamic Resurfacing Facial Pads, this complete cleanse ritual is the perfect way to elevate any skincare routine.
See/Hear/Read

Thursday night, my friend Gretchen invited me to see CrazySexyCool – The TLC Musical at Arena Stage. OMGOMGOMGOMG folks, if you're an elder millennial or GenX you have to see it! The dancing, the costumes, the telling of the story we all knew but only from the tabloids POV, and the SINGING! Seriously, this was phenomenal. CrazySexyCool is at the Arena Stage through August 9th; grab friends, maybe dress up in your favorite 90s gear (saw lots of folks doing just that), and grab a bite before or a drink after at The Wharf right across the street.
Not planned, but perfectly complementary, this week I finished the audiobook of Arsenio Hall's memoir, Arsenio. If you're my age, you know, and likely have fond memories of Hall. From his role in Coming to America to his groundbreaking late-night TV show,
Arsenio Hall is an icon of the 20th century. And unlike many other icons who have disappointed us with showing their true colors, Hall continues to be well-loved and respected by his peers and those who have worked for him.
And if you didn't know much about Arsenio Hall beyond his name, you can still enjoy this memoir. Hall got his big break thanks to Nancy Wilson. He met Johnny Gill and Jay Leno early on and stayed good friends. Artists like Snoop Dogg, Ice-T, MC Hammer, and Tupac became household names thanks to Hall.
And who else in the 90s was giving a stage to Bill Clinton, Sammy Davis Jr., Louis Farrakhan, Maya Angelou, Madonna, Prince… he gave two shows to Magic Johnson to share how he had HIV, a show dedicated to the LA riots…
Where do you find the artwork for the top of “Weekend Reads”? I enjoy it so much!
The feed on Substack, a mention on Instagram, sometimes I look up “woman painter” and add a time period, country, or color. When I see it on social media I screenshot it and then when Weekend Reads comes along scroll through my screenshots folder! I am so glad you like it, it’s a joy of mine to research these new artists!
