Romantic Washington DC Weekend Getaway:

Wedding Anniversary Staycation

My husband and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary by scheduling a romantic Washington DC weekend getaway. It's fun doing a staycation – a short drive, and I enjoy being a tourist in my hometown.

Located in Penn Quarter, the hotel Riggs Washington DC is walking distance to The Mall, the White House, Chinatown, as well as many popular attractions. It is also three blocks from the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro making it very easy to see all of the city.

Silver Lyan is an award-winning bar that's actually right below the Hotel Riggs. Our waiter was extremely passionate about his job, super knowledgeable about the menu and the history of the bar, and gave great suggestions.

Even though I've lived in Washington DC my whole life, I seem to always learn new things from guided walking tours. You get to learn history beyond the placards and school textbooks.

For this trip, I was in a group of four. We all had different dietary restrictions, vegan, pescatarian, dairy allergies and shellfish allergies. It's a challenge finding places that can accommodate, but Elizabeth's Gone Raw stepped up to the plate.

Café Riggs is so elegant. For our breakfasts at the café, it was bright and refreshing. There's a different vibe at night. It's more alluring and a nice spot to enjoy a drink.
