Dresses like these are so great for weddings and special occasions, but they're so memorable it's hard to spend a lot of money on them. I love Gwynnie Bee for dresses like this because I can wear it once and return, keep it for a bit in case there's another occasion, and if I am pleasantly surprised and fall in love I can keep it and pay for it at a price less than it would cost at a department store.
When Rosana from DC Style Factory suggested this clutch bag to add to my wardrobe, I felt it was too pricey and delicate to be a smart purchase. But I took a chance… and this bag has been one of the hardest working clutches in my wardrobe. The fringy leather is so unique, and the ivory color is surprisingly versatile and dresses up and low quite nicely.
I called this post Cut it Out because this dress has cut-out arm holes. I usually shy away from such styles because I feel they put my armpits on display. However, I loved the print of this skirt so much and have had such luck with City Chic I decided to give it a try. I think the cut out may actually be more flattering and dressy than a standard tank style, but I found my bra straps were showing. To make this work, I used one of these discs to pull together my straps in the back, and since this bodice is fully lined, I was able to safety pin my straps in front so they didn't peek out.

Can you believe fall is almost here? While I’m still wearing my shorts and sundresses, I know I need to start thinking about my fall wardrobe. And this fall, I want my wardrobe to be comfortable, machine washable, and enjoyable to wear. I’ve achieved all three with this outfit from Chico’s that is classic with…
It has been a bit since I shared what I wore recently. We had Spring Break and then suddenly life got really busy. It has been two years since I lived and died by my Google Calendar but I’m back, baby. Lots of, I can do that Tuesday but only after 2pm; I’m free Friday…
Ivory and black print wrap dress from Ann Taylor (this fall), black round toe “Henri” heels from Jessica Simpson (2006), black and silver necklace from Brass Plum (this fall), silver hoops and cuff. Hair was washed and conditioned, a bit of Pureology Root Lift and some Sexy Straight hair’s Shine On! added while wet, and…
I shared these pants from the Black woman-owned fashion brand Evryday Jane in my Friday Shop post. These are the kind of pants you buy not because you’re trying to whittle your waist or “flatter your figure” but because they are unique and fun and architectural while also being super comfy. Oh, and I have…
Husband: Hey, want me to take your picture for your blog? Me: Thanks Beeb, that would be great! I have been such a slacker with photos… Husband: They say you look thinner if you take pictures from above… Ha ha, very funny. Here I am with Emerson before heading out to the car, it’s fun…
Jury duty. Good times. Meant I had to get up at 4:30 in the morning. Didn’t get home until close to 6pm and got to sit on a jury. Black silk/tencel/rayon tee from Banana Republic, ivory trousers from Ann Taylor, leopard print peep toe heels from BCBGirls, silver cuff bracelet. Hair got a bit damp…
Such a pretty outfit! I’m wearing my first high/low dress to a wedding in August and a bit nervous that it’s a bit young for 57YO me. But I really like the way it looks on me, which is rare with dresses recently! It is the “Pleione ruffled high/low shift dress” in red saucy, which I got at the anniversary sale. Got it in black, too, and tempted to keep both.
I use that disk to keep my bra straps from showing!!! I always have to have my husband put it on for me though…..do you have a way to do it yourself??
XOXO

Either Karl does it, or I put on my bra backwards, get the straps through the disc, slide it around and shimmy into place. Option 1 is far preferred! 🙂
That dress is beautiful, flattering, and you just glow in it! I love those dramatic colors as well as the dramatic hi-low style.
Thank you!
You look amazing!! This dress is so beautiful…are you going to part with it?!?
I am. It’s utterly gorgeous but I know it’s not one I’d wear so many times I can just justify the cost.
I think what I like most about this dress is that you seem to be really enjoying it! It’s really very cute on you.
Thank you so much!

Good question. I have a hard time with these, too….

What a stunning dress! I think the top is very flattering, and I love how you styled it. I’ll say it again — Gwynnnie Bee — come to Canada!
That would be great if they did!
