For the next three days, two of my staff are out of the office. While we have systems in place to keep things running smoothly, it was a bit daunting this morning thinking about the rest of the week. I feel that clothing can be a suit of armor, and I decided to dress pretty professionally to steel myself against the craziness I may be dealing with. So far, so good, great other folks on the team who are helping to keep everything going great!

I have been wanting a peplum top, but each one I have tried makes me look like Judy Jetson's aunt. I was happy to find this softer peplum at Ann Taylor, and that it also is made of Ponte knit. It's a good match to other ponte pieces in my wardrobe (like this skirt I've owned for a while), and I like it with pants as well as skirts.

  1. WOW! You rock a peplum, Alison! You are 100% gorgeous! As killer as your outfits are, it’s your sparkly eyes and incredible smile that are always the best finishing touches to your style. My best :). You are a very pretty lady.

  2. So, I saw this outfit and said “hey, that looks awesome on her!” Wait, Ann Taylor is having a sale … wait, I totally have that Halogen skirt in multiple colors, wait, I have peep toes … and thus, I am the proud owner of a new peplum top. Thanks for the inspiration, as always, Allie. Love your blog and your unique voice

  3. Allison you look fabulous! This silhouette is so classic but you have added your own bit of modern flair with the peplum top and the peacock blue colors. You look like a million bucks!

  4. Gorgeous! I love a peplum that doesn’t scream PEPLUM!

Also, you’re looking skinny! (I hope that’s not annoying. I’ve fought my weight for 42 years and know that sometimes it can be weird when people tell you that. Like you didn’t look great before. Which of course you always do. Anyway, I hope you know what I mean!)

  5. Wow, I always thought peplums looked either costumey or childish, but this looks seriously amazing and elegant on you! Love the simplicity of this outfit.

  6. Judy Jetson’s aunt, LOL! Really gorgeous outfit.
I’d like to order the peplum-can you give some guidance on the size?
I’m a petite 36DD, not sure if I should go with petite L or medium regular.
    Thanks,Cat

  7. You look great! I love you in shoes like this that lengthen your leg line. I think booties cut you off too much, but I love that you rock them with confidence!

  8. This outfit has finally prompted me to comment. Love, love, love the entire ensemble. You are rocking’ this one girl- nice proportions, and the colors are great on you. The peplum is very flattering, and the shoes and bag add the purfect textural contrasts to the knit.

  9. I love that it has sleeves. I have seen a few cute ones, but they were all sleeveless, and putting a cardigan over it ruins the line. You look fab lady!

  10. I seldom comment, but had to tell you this is such a fantastic outfit on you. Simple, flattering, wow! And I want to run right out and get that top (although I think peplums might be a little young for the over-50 crowd).

Emerson is so cute- but I’m having a hard time not getting teary looking at her. My daughter just left for college… and her favorite thing at that age was dress-up. I still have the tiaras and wands and tutus…it’s a wonderful age.

  11. So cute!!! I love peplum – but I haven’t found any that works for me this season. I love Ann Taylor and will definitely have to try this top. Love that turquoise tutu too! 🙂

  12. Love the peplum, it looks so fab on you! I just recently tried them out myself and I must say I loved the style. Luckily it looks like it will stay around for next spring too!

  13. That is the perfect peplum. And it looks better on you than on the model.

I haven’t gotten into the peplum trend yet because I haven’t been able to find one I’ve liked; I might have to check this one out though.

      1. DEALS!!! Oh, how I love deals!!! I will definitely be keeping an eye on Miss Ann Taylor… my workwear desperately needs to be updated. I still look like a kid playing dress up, even after two and half years on the job.

P.S. My hubs told me you checked out his blog and THANK YOU. He was so excited that he got his first comment and you really, really boosted his confidence and excitement level.

  14. The whole outfit is amazing – but I love that color blue on you. And – may I ask which bracelet is the blue one that you’re wearing? I’d love to get one like that!

  15. You look absolutely smashing in that figure flattering ponte outfit! Love the peep toes too!! Your hair looks nice and wavy and bigger; what products did you use to achieve that?
LIttle Emerson is the essence of pastel rainbow colors–sugar and spice and everything nice.

    1. I washed my hair last night; usually after I put in Neil George Detangling Spray, a shine serum, Frizz-Ease Light or some combination. I forgot to do any of them so it dried naturally. In the morning I had some major volume but a bunch of frizz so I took pieces with the curling iron, curling away from the face, covered with a mist of Neil George Detangling Spray, let it dry and finger combed. The last picture is actually the first one taken so you can see how the curls started to relax once outdoors 🙂
