a cabi capsule wardrobe for spring 2019

I think in capsules, and when a brand launches its latest collection I immediately think of ways to mix and match to create more style with fewer pieces of clothing.  So when cabi released their latest collection I couldn't NOT create a spring cabi capsule wardrobe! For reference, visit my cabi capsule wardrobe for fall.

Thank you cabi for sponsoring this capsule wardrobe. While cabi provided the clothing and sponsored this post, I had full creative and editorial control.

A Spring cabi Capsule Wardrobe

Watching the fashion show for the Spring 2019 collection, I saw so many pieces that could live multiple lives.  They could be styled for work, for a night out, or a casual weekend.  So many fabrics that would be comfy when working from home but also glam up for Date Night. With just nine pieces of clothing and a few accessories from the Spring 2019 cabi collection, this spring cabi capsule wardrobe provides 18 different looks for day, night, weekend, and beyond.

Shop the Spring cabi Capsule Wardrobe:

belt | scarf | cropped blue jeans | skinny white jeans | navy wide-leg pants | white jacket | navy jacket | blue and white blouse | long cardigan | knit camisole | navy v-neck | chandelier earrings | short necklace | long pendant necklace | long multimedia necklace | pearl bracelet

Shop Additional Accessories Used in the Outfit Photos:

leopard scarf (last year from cabi; similar) | pearl earrings (last year from cabi; similar) | large silver hoops | gold hoops | gold bangle | slim gold bracelet | black hat | leopard pumps | black flats | black pumps | nude pumps

For size reference, I am wearing a size Large or 12 in all the items from cabi. I'd recommend if between sizes, go down a size for the cardigan and the blue jeans (I usually wear a size 32 in jeans and a Large or 14 Petite in tops, jackets, and dresses).  Also please note I had the white jeans and navy pants shortened by a tailor and the blue jeans I DIYed them to make them an inch shorter (I am 5'3″).

Sample Outfits from the cabi Capsule Wardrobe

While I created over 17 outfits, it's easy to create additional looks. Add in a few wardrobe staples already residing in your closet and you could create dozens of looks that would be great now and into summer. While many looks feature heels, they would look equally as stylish with a lower heel or flat sandal. Many looks would also be great replaced with shorts, a skirt, or cropped lightweight pants to help it transition to summer. Below is a gallery of all the looks. Click on any thumbnail graphic in the gallery to see the full-size images and descriptions. Hover over the images to find arrows to advance and go back within the gallery. With all my years wearing cabi, I have amassed quite a collection over the seasons. What's cool is cabi strives to have pieces from one season work with another. I have navy pieces from last spring and seasons prior that mix and match beautifully with items in this capsule wardrobe. When styling these looks I found many accessories from past cabi collections (like the leopard scarf I wore here and here, the pearl earrings I wore here) looked so great.  There are many pieces from this current collection from cabi I can see myself wearing for many seasons to come.  And like most cabi collections, I found it important to try on the pieces; items I swear weren't my style I loved once wearing them.  The pieces are made to work with a variety of body types and live multiple lives in your closet.

cabi capsule wardrobe white jeans

I love a pair of crisp white jeans for spring and summer; they instantly brighten anything in your closet.  Finding opaque white jeans that flatter isn't easy; the cabi High Skinny is close to perfection. Stretchy but they don't stretch out, skinny but not painted on, and no VPL (visible panty line). A white jean can be worn now with black boots and a black turtleneck, brown boots and a tan silk blouse with gold jewelry. And come spring and summer it's an instant way to make looks feel more dressy.

cabi capsule wardrobe radcliffe cardigan

A hot trend this year is the varisty sweater. From Gucci to mall brands, you'll see this collegiate-inspired cardigan styled with jeans, skirts, and everything in between.  cabi's Radcliffe Cardigan is right on trend with a mix of colors that will go with everything. Throw it on over a striped tee and your favorite jeans, wear it to work with navy trousers and a blouse, button it up as a tunic, wear it open, or tie it around your waist! I love styling this cardigan with leopard and other animal prints.

cabi capsule wardrobe chance wide leg

The Chance Wide Leg pants feel like you're wearing your favorite loungewear but dress up so nicely.  They have a foldover waistband that hides under untucked knits, but I liked unfolding it to make a high-waisted look. I put on the Venture Blouse and pulled on the Chance Wide Legs and planned to fold over the waist but then stopped… with the waist up high it gave the effect of a jumpsuit!  I kept it high with the Escape Tee; the tee has a V front and back so it easily can be made off the shoulder.  Knotting the tee again gave a one-piece or jumpsuit effect.

I love creating capsule wardrobes because they help you see ways to wear things you already own in different ways.  I truly believe you can achieve more style with fewer clothes if you make smart purchases and look for pieces that can be styled at least three different ways. Thank you cabi for letting me play dress-up with your great Spring 2019 collection!

  2. I love this wardrobe! It’s great inspiration for my upcoming travels. Could you please do one for summer in Europe, where it’s often super hot and you can’t wear a third piece every day because it’s just too hot? I know this situation doesn’t lend itself to maximum flexibility but I’m sure you’ll make a better go of it than I am.

I have most of these pieces and now I am able to see a few different ways to put this together. I am great at knowing what I like. Not always creative in putting it together. Thank you for the post, the many pictures of different outfits.

  6. Wow!

I’m late to the party but my first reaction was : what is this magic?! It’s really well done. Those posts must be so much work; thank you!

No Cabi in Canada but it looks like Reitmans, where just about every working canadian woman shops.

    1. Oh there is cabi in Canada! It’s at-home sales, so if you visit their site they’ll help you find a stylist near you, or you can use their app cabi Tap and shop without meeting a stylist!

      1. Hi Teri, I am going to edit your comment to remove your personal link. I know once you have it in your browser it’s hard to not have it show up; I’ll switch it to the standard URL. An FYI to all cabi stylists, please do not provide your personal link or contact information on this blog or any marketing to keep it fair for all. Thank you so much!

      2. Oops! that’s not the address that I copied. That stylist is in the USA. Simply go to cabionline.com and search stylist.

  7. I just found your website and I love Cabi, so this is amazing. You have such a skill and I love when you model the clothes. Thank you so much for sharing. I also really appreciate you putting in comfortable shoes – I just don’t wear heels at all, so I have to figure out other shoes with all the cabi clothes.

  8. Yeah!! I love your Cabi capsule!! Thank you for showing us some options. Curious how this would work for travel.

  9. You had me with the Chance Wide Leg trousers. I had a pair just like these almost 20 years ago, and wore them to death. I love the look with the Escape shirt — so pretty! I’m about your height and size, so I LOVE seeing how you wear these clothes. You do such a wonderful job, Alison, and I’m so grateful for all your work.

  10. Love everything about this post. This is my first time visiting your blog. I wear about the same size as you do and it’s nice seeing the CAbi clothes on you as it gives me ideas. Awesome job!

  11. I had a Cabi-sponsored post about capsules from the spring 2019 collection show up in Facebook today and I reposted with a comment about how lookbooks help people create outfits from capsules (which I find effortlessly easy but so many people struggle). I love how you have styled these pieces into many different coordinated looks. My nail salon often sponsors Cabi shows and last time they had one, I was picking items off the rack, and showing my friend how to pattern mix (because of course Cabi has helpfully created color lines that work together); my friend was surprised at how many outfits could be made using just four to six pieces. She was resistant to the idea of layering a gray-green pin-striped cami over a green/yellow/orange floral top, then adding that wonderful green utility jacket and mustard-gold pants and she was kind of shocked when it all worked. I did the same thing with items in the line that have a lot of orange. I tell people that designers really want to help us and to take advantage of their advice on things and you have done a great job illustrating this with this capsule post.

  12. I am intrigued with the short-sleeve v-neck (your image cabi-9) and how you have it worn off the shoulders. I never would have thought to do that. Love that look! Did you think of that yourself or did they intentionally design the piece to give the option to do that?

Also, I love, love, love a good nude pump! Never out of style.

    1. I thought of it, and really just by trying it on, finding how silky and stretchy the fabric was and playing with it. For these capsules I request a lot of clothes and likely return half of it because it doesn’t work the way I thought it would. Then from there I spend an hour or so creating outfits in front of my mirror. I write them down in a journal and tally how many times I use a piece to make sure they’re each used at least 4 times. And when I played and found it off the shoulder I was like YESSSSS because it really switched it up but was totally wearable.

  13. Very cute! I have a lot of cabi clothes, this capsule is one of the best I’ve seen this season! I love the escape tee and the wide legged pants on you! Thank you for this post.
