I love being able to share the perks of my job with you, and I love sharing your honest reviews, unique perspective, and a range of lifestyles, personal styles, shapes, and needs that can benefit a greater range of this amazing community of women.

When given the opportunity to receive some pieces from J. Crew Factory's winter collection, I reached out in the Wardrobe Oxygen Facebook group and longtime community member Jenny was chosen to conduct the review. Jenny was paid a fair rate plus was able to pick a few pieces from a lookbook. She decided to share with us not only J. Crew Factory fashion for women, but for men too, with her boyfriend also modeling!

J. Crew Factory Review: Plus Size & Menswear

Hi Wardrobe Oxygen friends! I’m Jenny, a librarian and mom living in Georgia. In the last few years, I’ve worked on exploring fun and risk in my wardrobe – trying to wean myself off of “flattering” and “slimming” and move towards “this pattern makes me happy” and “colors!!” I’ve been a plus-size person my entire life, so dressing with the intent to satisfy my own joy and comfort can feel both exciting and rebellious.

I was excited for this review opportunity, because I’ve found a lot to love in J. Crew and J. Crew Factory’s plus size range since they launched it in 2018. Some of my favorite pieces in my closet include novelty fruit and animal prints, classic wrap and shirt dress silhouettes, bright florals (and I mean BRIGHT – hot orange and acid pink color combos) from J. Crew or J. Crew Factory.

These pieces were fun to pick and to style; to help you if you see something that appeals, my measurements are 50”-42”-53”, and I’m 5’5”; I typically wear a 3X/22/24 in J. Crew and J. Crew Factory, occasionally a 2X/20 depending on cut and fabric.

J. Crew Factory Mini Bias Cut Slip Skirt

Styling the J. Crew Factory Mini Bias-cut Slip Skirt with chambray and a great read

I wore plenty of vintage slips over my flare jeans as a Nineties teen, but the lace-edged slip skirts and dresses I’ve been seeing in 2025 feel a little too underclothing-adjacent for me. The unembellished bias-cut slip skirt from J. Crew Factory is a better fit for my grown self. It’s also a beautifully light and flowing satin, much more comfortable for Georgia winters than most heavier plaid fabrics.

Chambray is my favorite neutral, and I’m happy to see how well it chimes with this classic red tartan skirt (Royal Stewart, if my college years in Scotland taught me right) for a day working at the library. Plaid can lean so Christmassy, but I’m looking forward to wearing it with my Docs to take my teen and friends to Nine Inch Nails in a few months. Still punk rock! I’m wearing the skirt in a 3X, and there’s room in the waist while it fits perfectly in the hips.

J. Crew Factory Faux-fur Cropped Jacket

Is the J. Crew Factory Faux-fur Cropped Jacket gorgeous? Yes. Was it ridiculous of me to crave it when I live in the deep south US and barely wear a coat all winter? Also yes, but don’t tell me what to do. Imagine petting the softest cat imaginable, one with fur made of marshmallows and angel wings, and you are approaching the velvety plushness of this jacket (just look at the pic to see how I can’t stop petting it!).

The combination of a luxe material with a simple cut and neutral color will work with outfits both glam and fun. I chose to order this jacket in a 3X to ensure it would close over my chest. It does, but the arms feel a little loose and long. I also decided to have it shortened so that it would be noticeably cropped on me – out of the box, it hit at my low hip, i.e. my widest point, which didn’t appeal to me.

J. Crew Factory Slim Wide-Leg Sailor Jean

As the proud, lifelong owner of a soft belly that’s only gotten more voluminous post-baby and peri-menopause, I rarely wear pants or jeans, but I’d been yearning for a sailor style in a dark wash. The sizing for the J. Crew Factory Slim Wide-leg Sailor Jean tops out at 35, and my measurements are a bit over the top end of the range for that size. However, customer reviews on the website mentioned that the style runs big and relaxes after wear, so I decided to go for it!

Just as the reviews said, after a few hours of wear these sailor jeans were easier to zip, yet the midweight denim and touch of stretch kept them from looking baggy. Darts in back give these jeans a tailored feel and make my butt look fabulous. While my belly is definitely on display, the high rise and wide waistband mean it is comfortably contained rather than cut into.

These jeans are available in Classic fit with a 30″ inseam, Petite with a 28″ inseam, and Tall with a 33″ inseam. I prefer a 29-30” inseam and these jeans in the Classic fit are wearable without hemming – a relief when so many brands seem to size up their plus range in ALL measurements. I wore them with wood-soled clogs to lean into the 70’s vibe, but they also look great with low-profile retro sneakers.

My boyfriend said the J. Crew Factory Crewneck Sweater in Supersoft Lambswool Blend is “extremely soft and comfortable”, and it feels lightweight enough for southern winters. The neutral color works with everything in his closet so it’s a great layering piece, and looked equally cute yet classy with jeans and more dressy pants. I can confirm it’s also a wonderfully snuggly sweater if you’re hugging someone who’s wearing it. He’s wearing it in a large, which is his typical size across most brands, and he’s 6’ 2”.

Thank you Jenny for such a fun review of one of the most popular brands with the Wardrobe Oxygen community! Happy holidays, everyone!
