Today I got dressed and my husband said, “Looks as though you are channeling Michelle Obama.”  It's funny how a cardigan belted over a sheath really has become a signature look that we associate with the First Lady.  I love the look, and love how it can take a sleeveless dress and make it more appropriate for a business setting (or the cooler months of the year).  This dress I am LOVING – the Spring trend of Ikat prints, a style that can dress up or down and hey, what woman doesn't love a dress with POCKETS???

I had to replace my black patent belt from Ann Taylor – it just got too big and it wasn't a style where you could make another hole.  I like this one, the curved buckle is a nice change and I am on the middle hole so I could lose more and it would still fit.

And I am really liking the bangs now that I washed my hair and got to play a bit with it.  A nice change for spring!

  1. Look at you in color! Love that dress. I am always sad when I try on Maggy London–hemlines are far too high for my frame. Perfect for you, though!

  2. I just had to chime in here with everyone else. This out fit is FABULOUS! I’ve got a sleeveless dress with some green/red/white/black and now you’ve inspired me to wear it sooner rather than later.

    I’m also loving the bangs.

Speaking of belts, I have a cute leather one I got that’s too small. I could take it to a cobbler I guess to punch a new hole in it, right?

  3. This is one of my favourite looks of you, ever! I’m reading from Canada so I get jealous when I see that you can wear outfits like this at this time of the year!! I adore reading your blog and you give such great advice. 🙂

  5. I was JUST eyeing this dress the other day for a wedding I’m attending in May – decided it wasn’t ‘fancy’ enough for this event, but love the colors and print. Gorgeous, lady!

Second – oooooh, I love Maggy London, especially vintage Maggy London, have you tried on any of her vintage silk sheaths? To die for! And this dress looks so good on you!

  8. Well last night I got home, took off my tights and belt, untucked my shirt and just wore that around the home.

I have black yoga pants & a pair of black knit harem pants I’ll throw on with the top I already have on. If I know I will be cooking or doing something with Emerson I may change into a long-sleeved tee or casual sweater with it.

I’m THAT WOMAN who gets dressed for the market. Even if it’s jeans and flip flops, I at least wear a necklace and makeup 🙂

  9. I love this outfit! You look amazing! I love watching what you wear. I was on the Nordstrom site. saw that dress. never would i have thought to buy it until i saw how awesome it looks on you.

what do you put on when you get home from work? your post last week about getting rid of all of our crappy lounge wear has had me thinking. if i did such a thing, i don’t know what i’d put on when i get home from work. this past tuesday i had to go to the grocery store right from work. i was wearing a super cute ATL dress and cute brown boots. i ran into a neighbor who said ‘look how cute you look. i never see you dressed’ i see her every day after i get home from work and am taking our dogs for a walk. i’m ALWAYS wearing sweats and a ponytail. i was kind of embarassed but my after work attire needs some work, i guess. -shannon
