The problem with taking quick pictures before work is there's no time to check proofs, no full length mirror for adjustments, just shoot, take the memory card, and go. The belt was supposed to be hidden. While this blouse is gorgeous, it's a bit too long for me. I decided to use a belt to blouse it, and I knew the belt was hidden from view. However after hugging a child and a dog, putting things in my car, dashing back to the house to get my forgotten iPhone, the shirt shifted and the belt was in view and Karl didn't know it was to be styled in any other manner. Oh well, you can get the idea!

I ordered this top from Gwynnie Bee thinking I could wear it to Forecastle with distressed denim shorts per this post.  It really is a perfect summer blouse – it looks dressy but it's that crepey fabric that doesn't cling, and it has an exposed zipper in back that really dresses it up.  While I paired it with white jeans, this would also look lovely with ivory or brown trousers or traditional indigo denim.  I know I wear a lot of dresses from Gwynnie Bee, but as you see they have all sorts of clothing to rent.  Click this link and get a free 30-day trial to check out the program for yourself!

I'll be heading to NYC this week with Sally from Already Pretty to work on a really cool project for Foxcroft (I'll be sure to share it here on the blog when it's ready!) but I'd love to meet some of you if you're in town. We'll be at the Pig N’ Whistle on 36th at 8:00pm on Wednesday, July 24th and we'd love to hang with you!

  1. On your recommendation – I joined Gwynnie Bee this month. This shirt was in my first box but, even though I loved the color, the fabric, the general shape, I had to send it back due to length – I just wasn’t able to figure out what to pair it with….well, if only I’d waited a week. Great hack with the belt.

  2. Well i think this looks marvelous – the top has beautiful colors, there’s even a vintage vibe to it…

  3. Love this top, and always love crisp white trousers. I so want to go to NYC, sad face here : < Hope your trip is fabulous.

  4. Allie,

I meant to ask you. Do you think well of Foxcroft’s shirts? I am looking for a white, long – sleeved, tailored looking, button up-shirt. I would like the fabric to be fairly heavy.

    1. I really like them, that’s how I ended up partnering with them. I bought one of their shirts on sale at Nordstrom and raved about it on the blog. I loved how it was wrinkle free, opaque, and fit comfortably over my chest. They found the post and we’ve worked together off and on ever since. I now own three of their shirts – one is slightly transparent but more of a novelty piece but they are all well made, launder beautifully. Generous fit, if between sizes I recommend to go down and it will still fit a full bust. I have one of their sweaters too and it’s very well made and high quality. 5. You look great in those colors! And I think the belt looks fine, and like you wanted it that way.

    1. That’s what I said. In fact, Allie & Sal are my 2 favorites. I am surprised that they haven’t met. I had the mistaken notion that they got together regularly.

  6. So pretty! My eyes just love looking at your photos, for the colors are so perfect not only the outfit with itself but with your own hair and skin and eyes! You have such an uncommon sense for this as yourself as art, and also I can learn from what I see and be inspired. 🙂

  7. You look stunning, very elegant outfit. I always think white jeans would make me look huge, but seeing them here on you makes me re-think that assumption – they are very elongating and flattering on you.

But I have to ask: how do you, as a mother of a small child, rider of subways and generally “real person” manage to wear white pants all day and keep them clean? I just don’t think I could swing it! Peanut butter on sticky fingers, car grease, leaky pens…

  8. Your outfit is very eye catching and perfect in shades of summer colors. And, don’t worry, the belt matches, so I wouldn’t have known your secret unless you hadn’t mentioned it.
