It is a very dreary day today in DC… perfect weather for the brightest pieces in my closet! I got this tee at the Ann Taylor Friends and Family event the other week and have to admit it is the only thing I liked. While at first glance this season's Ann Taylor collection is right up my alley, I find many of the fabrics to not be nice enough for the pricepoints, the silhouettes a bit too racy for the workplace, but the styles not trendy enough to make them be right for after hours. I'm not really sure who the current Ann Taylor woman is, but it doesn't seem any more to be me. Did you buy anything at the recent Ann Taylor Friends and Family event? How do you feel about their current season collection?

  1. I was just there this weekend, and I bought 3 summer cardigans, 2 blouses, 2 pants and 4 tshirts …. The colours were perfect for me this season:). But I did spot a few more casual tops that were cheap upon second look

  3. I really WANTED to buy things from Ann Taylor — and wound up buying the pencil skirt with fabric “sequins” because it was different and because I got it less than half price — but the dresses, which are usually perfect for me, were exactly as you described. Plus, there’s only so much watercolor print a person can wear in one season.

  5. Sigh.  Only my just into the 3rd trimester friend has scored at AT this season.  Like you, I like the colors, liked some of the items online, but in person, they didn’t meet my expectations.

  7. I bought a few basic tees at the Friends and Family event…otherwise nada.  I too am disappointed.  I bought some great sweaters last winter/fall at great prices…not impressed with AT’s selections out now…

  9. I bought two blouses with the crisscross front hoping to wear them to work.  I didn’t try them on in the store–bad mistake.  They are too sheer and my husband hates the exposed black zipper in the back.  I agree with you that much of their styles this season are just not me; which is disappointing because for so long I considered myself an Ann Taylor woman.

  11. I forgot to mention that I was talking about Ann Taylor’s collection this season.  Sorry about that…I hope you didn’t think I was talking about your outfit.

  13. Nice colorblocking! And, I feel the same as you, Allie.  For some reason, even though the pieces seem to be cheerful and fun, they dont  have the classic fit  and quality fabrics that I was expecting.

  15. Cute outfit! Interesting – I went to AT over the weekend and bought a number of items – and thought of you and some of your recent posts as I bought some bright cardis and tops, flowery blouse, and a (bias) striped dress.  I really enjoyed the options, fits, and so forth, and the discounts allowed me to pick out full price items while they still had a good selection of sizes. In recent years I have found their stuff, esp in fall/winter, rather drab and gray, so all the color grabbed me. Also, as a very hourglassy shape, I usually pass on all their sheath dresses, but I found a lot of other good options for me.

  17. I ended up buying a couple of basic tees only.  I really wanted a couple of things at first glance, but then could think of no times applicable to my current life when I could wear them.  I guess I feel the same way you do.  I kept thinking, “Well, I’ll be changing jobs/moving so I should get some stuff for that,” but then thought, “I just don’t think I’m going to feel comfortable in that, no matter what I’m doing.”  So I was sad not to buy stuff, but in the end, it’s best for my closet (and wallet!) that I abstained.
