This week is going to be a scorcher in DC, and I am looking to stay as cool as possible while looking appropriate at the office. This dress from Soft Surroundings is 100% linen so it is breezy and comfortable. I took this dress on my vacation and wore it to the zoo in Columbia, SC on a very hot day and felt breezy and cool. I usually shy from linen because it does end up looking so crinkled and wrinkled, but with this weather I don't care and embracing my rumpled side!

Anyone recognize this dress??? Yeah baby, it’s true what they say – nine months on, nine months off!  Granted, I am not exactly back to my pre-baby weight and the body is no where the same shape it was, but many of my pre-pregnancy clothes are fitting again!  I remember putting on this dress a…

Met friend and new mom at mall for lunch and a bit of shopping. She got a new job and we were looking for some separates that would blend into her current wardrobe, but make it more professional and appropriate for her new figure. We were at a major outlet mall, and found some great…

Another very cold day in the Nation’s Capital! I did prepare my house with having the curtains closed all day, draft dodgers under the outside doors and doors closed to rooms we don’t use. I think this weekend I’ll go buy some of that plastic to shrink wrap around the windows – I did that…

  1. I really like this dress. The length and neckline are nice. Also the necklace + necklace combo is nice. Looking at the pic I didn’t realize it was linen. I had to scroll back up. Then I saw the wrinkles but I didn’t even notice the first time. Usually I notice linen from a mile away because of the wrinkles. The color must have disguised it well.

  2. I feel the same way about linen.  The weather we have in NW Indiana comes your way in about 24 hrs.  Better make sure that linen dress is ready to go.  This last week has been brutal!

  4. Pretty dress. I tend to shy away from linen as well – the wrinkles drives me nuts! Wished they could invent wrinkle free linen.

  5. I love that dress!!!  Your hair looks lovely, too!  Stay cool…sending you some ocean breezes from LA.

  7. Heat wave or not, there is absolutely nothing flattering about this dress. In fact it looks awful on you. It is shapeless and only accentuates your worst features – flabby arms and tree trunk legs. Other readers are lying when they tell you it looks good.

  9. I love a slightly rumpled linen dress on a scorching day – it makes me feel all tropical, like an ice-cold margarita is my next step! You look fabulous.

  11.  Ooh good question! I probably wouldn’t because I need more of a fit and flare style to carry off a belt, but I think this dress could work belted if it was long enough to handle the blousing.  I think a vintage leather belt slouched on the hip, or a widerbelt higher on the natural waist would work.  A leather belt on the hips would also make this more of a tunic and would look cool with skinny jeans.

  12. I love this whole outfit–definitely a cool, breezy look.  I’m trying to figure out how to use belts (other than with jeans), and I’m curious to know if you would ever belt this dress.  I know it would defeat the point of cool and comfy for today, but would you ever?

  14. As a fellow curly girl, I have to weigh in on your hair as well — it looks ah-mazing. I can’t get mine to behave in the DC weather (it’s a frizz fest right now), so I’m jealous!

  16.  I went into the settings for that ad program and removed all video and audio.  I thought I did it before but I guess I missed some buttons.  Let me know if you continue to experience it.  It’s hard to gauge because the ads always change and vary based on you as an individual (that’s why sometimes you’ll see ads for the same things you bought or searched for earlier in the day).  But do let me know about things like this, I don’t want this blog to be noisy, slow loading, or annoying in any way 🙂

  17. The ad/video changes with each time you open the post. It’s a little video box, right below the Zulily ad….. So glad you weren’t upset by my comment, ‘cause I’m a big fan of yours!

  18.  Ack, I don’t like that either!  I don’t see the video, where is it on the blog.  I try to keep my blog audio-free, so I will investigate on how to stop it.  Thank you for telling me! 🙂

  19. I’ve never complained about anyone’s blog before….and it’s actually NOT a criticism of you, but I just wanted to let you know that I hate that video that plays (with audio!) as soon as you click on your post. I hate to be startled with sudden, loud, ads blasting out of the sidebars!

Hope you don’t mind the comment. I love you and love your blog and love your fashion….it’s just the loud audio I don’t love!
