Hi, I'm Alison. I'm sharing my favorite no-sew ways to modify a t-shirt for a feminine fit

unisex t-shirts can be so unforgiving to curves

1

shorten the sleeves

The easiest way to get a feminine fit is cut the hems off the sleeves.  After cutting, give the sleeve a tug to curl the edges; it won't fray.

1

shorten the sleeves

A perk to this DIY is the two strips left from cutting the sleeves make for great workout headbands!

2

cut The neckline

Turn the t-shirt inside out and cut along the neck band, removing it and the tag. It will instantly open the neckline while still covering bra straps.

2

cut The neckline

Where the shoulder seam meets the neck seam; follow the neck band and cut over this seam.  Snip off any jagged points and tug to curl the edge.

3

Make a scoop or v-neck

With the tee right side out, match up the shoulder seams so the “front” of the shirt is the sleeve, not the graphic.

3

Make a scoop or v-neck

With a bit of white bar soap, draw a line for where you'd like to cut.

3

Make a scoopneck

Imagine you're cutting the thinnest of slices of a pie that's thicker at the crust and thinner to a point at the pie's center. Cut on the outside of your mark and tug to curl.

4

off the shoulder

Cut another “pie” on the back of the shirt and tug instead of widening the shoulders for best fit.

off the shoulder

Go slow, it's better to snip a little at a time than too much and ruin your t-shirt.

5

shorten too-long Tees

Iron and use pins to connect the front and back.  Use a ruler to draw dots with soap, then use the ruler to connect the dots.  Cut against a table or flat surface.

6

make a t-shirt sleeveless

Cut along the shoulder seam, removing the seam with your sleeve.  Don't to roll; it will on its own a bit. You don't want to make the arm openings wider.

A pair of scissors specifically for fabric will ensure smooth cuts and fewer errors. For old scissors prep by cutting aluminum foil; this will clean and sharpen them.

Your Scissors matter!

Consider a t-shirt you don't love to for testing.  Who knows, you may DIY it into your favorite top! For more tips on how to DIY your t-shirt visit Wardrobe Oxygen.
