What I Wore: Trouvé Twist Front Dress featured by popular DC petite fashion blogger, Wardrobe OxygenWhen the temps rise, I love easy dresses I can throw on with sneakers or sandals. When I visited the DC Trunk Club Clubhouse, I requested this in my trunk of picks my stylist gathered.  This twist front dress from Trouvé was exactly what I was looking for and I know it will be one of my summer essentials. Even better, it's under $70!

This twist front dress comes in two colors and goes up to size XL/16. No zippers, no buttons, just pull it on.  The knot detail is in the perfect place to camouflage the belly, and the asymmetrical hemline keeps it from being boring (and also gives more coverage than a traditional t-shirt dress). Not too tight, but not a shapeless shift, you can still slip a pair of Skimmies under them without VPL.

I love the idea of dresses with sneakers, but with my solid legs, thick ankles, and wide feet solid sneakers usually emphasize the negative.  These are thin, lightweight, low profile, and not too much of a contrast from my legs so I think they work. And these sneakers are uber comfortable, weigh hardly anything (great for travel), and are able to fit thin orthotics (I‘ve added these to provide additional arch support).

talbots denim jacketI previously mentioned the awesomeness of this Talbots denim jacket.  The wash is awesome, it looks very classic and cool.  It's so great to find a good-looking denim jacket available in petites, woman, and woman petite sizes; a petite size is much more flattering on me, especially with dresses!

What I Wore: Trouvé Twist Front Dress featured by popular DC petite fashion blogger, Wardrobe OxygenI wore this look yesterday. Ran errands around town, then headed to Takoma Park, Maryland to get my roots touched up and a bang trim from Billy at Scissor & Comb. After, Karl and I grabbed lunch a couple doors down at Republic, one of our favorite restaurants in the area.  It was a gorgeous day, around 80 degrees and we ate outside. We captured these photos while waiting for our meal; they had the doors and walls all open to let in the warm breezes. This was a perfect outfit for looking pulled together but being active; I think this would also be a great look for sight-seeing and you'll likely see me wear it many weekends!

  1. My very favorite denim jacket ever was from talbots and I lost it. I tried finding a replacement for a couple of years on poshmark and ebay but the ones I found were never the same. I’m ordering this one with the hope that it’s like my old one. It looks really similar! I love that talbots has plus petites! Also, love this whole look! I too like easy jersey dresses with sneakers in the summer. For the longest time, because of a foot problem, I had a terrible time with shoes. Now that I had surgery, I can wear cute low profile sneakers again! My favorites are a pair of perforated leather VANS – so easy to slip on and off, not too athletic, and comfy to walk in, and a pair of silver leather converse one stars.

  2. Your workouts are paying off and you look incredible! I love this dress paired with those Cole Haan sneakers!. It’s the perfect work to casual look and super great for spending a Saturday flea marketing or at brunch. I’d seriously consider buying it were it not for the fact that I already have so many black dresses that need to worn first.

  3. Debating between this dress and the Universal Standard Tesino Jersey dress. I wear a 12 bottom, 14 on top due to DDD bust. Apple shape. Universal standard stuff runs big on me but it’s so nice I just wear the smallest i can. Which one would you choose? They are similar prices. I’d love your insight.

    1. I swear I left a comment, but I came back and it’s gone! I haven’t tried that dress from Universal Standard yet but it’s headed my way so when it does I’ll do a review and compare it to this dress and some others!

  4. I may have just purchased this dress off of Nordstrom’s website after seeing you in it…..ok I absolutely did….

  5. You look cute and comfy!
I always love the look of converse sneakers with casual dresses but Converse just don’t give me enough support/comfyness any more. 🙁
Wearing most other kinds of sneakers makes me feel somewhat ridiculous. Models look cool, I guess, with athletic shoes and a dress, but I feel like Joan Cusack in Working Girl.

    1. (I know these aren’t converse on you– you’ve worn cons often, and this is a slightly differen type of look, and I think you pull it off, but I would not be able to. 🙂 )

      1. I can’t do Converse any more for the same reason. The only insoles I could fit in them didn’t do enough to provide support and comfort. I have some Pumas and Adidas and both look ridiculous with dresses, this is the first pair since Converse that I don’t think makes me look like a woman on K street in DC in the ’80s!

  6. I love this black dress on you. Would you consider doing a blog about how to wear black during the summer?
