Weekend Reads for Rehoboth Girls Weekend

As you read this, I will be in Rehoboth for our annual weekend. Me, my sister, and my daughter go every year for a long weekend. This weekend looks to be rainy, but we hope to get some pockets of sunny beach time and will spend the inclement weather napping, dining, and shopping.
This was a busy week: The Common App is open and we got started on it, I had a Board of Elections meeting, did some Girl Scout stuff (did I mention I took over as leader for this year?), and lots of administrative stuff for the job… and that means it's Friday morning, I was packing and realized I didn't write Weekend Reads! So this weekend is very brief, but there were some things I was gathering this week to share:
Weekend Reads

I know a lot of you prefer brown mascara to black; I just noticed that one of my favorite tubing mascaras, Caliray (good quality and ethics), now comes in an espresso brown! In case you haven't seen it, here is my guide to the best tubing mascaras.
The Return of the Monarch. (The Atlantic – gift link)
I've had a picture of me trying on these glasses in my phone for over a year and I finally ordered them. Stay tuned!
Ladies, We’re Entering Our Crone Era. It’s About Time. (The New York Times – gift link)
Okay midlife hairloss sisters… I keep hearing about this stuff but the pricetag has me wary. Have you tried it?
Subaru Socialists and the Great Disappointed. (The New Yorker)
Shark sent me this and I'll be taking it with me to Rehoboth; stay tuned if it's yucky out we'll be doing hotel room facials!
North Carolina Teen Arrested for Using Abortion Pills As “Deadly Weapon” (Abortion, Every Day via Substack)
I am only sharing this because it pissed me off; this is my governor. He is not perfect, but no one is and his good far outweighs the bad and I think he's stellar. I don't understand the mindset of publications like The Atlantic doing this; do they want the scary MAGA candidate to win the general election instead? Are we really going to screw our chances of getting out of this mess for clickbait? The Newcomer. (The Atlantic – gift link)
Abdul El-Sayed Talks About His Victory, Chuck Schumer and His Mom. (New York Times – gift link)
Cool has left the building. (Style Not Fashion via Substack)
The Hottest New AI Chatbot Is Just a Guy Answering Your Questions. (Wired)
I've had a few folks ask how I'm caring for my curls these days and I need to write a full post, but I'm a 100% Hairstory gal now and have been since the winter. I've been using New Wash in place of shampoo and conditioner for close to a year. I use the Hair Balm when wet, scrunch and place my curls and let it airdry, then Undressed to revive my curls Day 2 and 3.
Over at The Laundry Pile, I shared an honest list of what I think is worth it at Quince and I also shared what is trending with my teen in the fashion world.
FYI, got some new codes for y'all!
- L'AVANT Collective, which is luxe but functional enzyme-based laundry detergent and cleaners gave us ALISON15 for 15% off. I don't like highly fragrant stuff, but the Fresh Laundry is truly just that – fresh, very light. There are also unscented options.
- INEZ, the brand known for making heels actually comfortable, has provided us ALISONG15 for 15% off sitewide. My friend has these as her night out shoes and they're so badass and she says she can wear them all night.
- Awe Inspired is a jewelry brand I shared just once in Weekend Reads and y'all LOVED it. I have this ring, it's so cool, and I got my sister this ring. Awe Inspired has provided us code ALISONG15 for 15% off sitewide!
- Material Kitchen makes dishwasher-safe, non-porous and bio-based (no plastic) prepware and the cutting boards are sooo good. Code ALISON20 gets you 20% off sitewide!
- Good Twin makes actually good-tasting NA wine and bubbly. I rarely drink anymore and don't keep alcohol in the home; my husband is sober. Love the single-serve NA rosé and sparkling for social situations and we have a bottle of NA sparkling blanc in the fridge for when 86 47 happens. Code ALISON15 gets you 15% off sitewide.
Have a wonderful girls weekend! I’m interested in trying Hairstory (curly girl here) and your thoughts on the Shark.
