Wardrobe Oxygen What I Wore: Emploi New York Lexington Long Dress

I recently received this dress from emploi New York and am surprised by how much I like it. It truly is a ponte dress for desk to drinks in a color that can dress up or down and work three seasons out of the year.

A Ponte Dress for Desk to Drinks

This off-white ponte dress is from the latest collection from emploi New York.  In a surprisingly flattering color on my winter fair skin and a ponte fabric that is comfortable and warmer than many knits, this is a great “desk to drinks” dress that could easily dress up for the holiday season.

Wardrobe Oxygen: Dagne Dover Python Clutch

I styled this ponte dress for desk to drinks with this Dagne Dover snakeskin embossed clutch wallet. At work, this can tuck into my commuter bag and be my wallet; then come the end of the day I can carry just it (there is room to hold a lipstick as well as other purse essentials). And speaking of lipstick, this one is Revlon in “Really Red.”

Being 5'3″, I immediately felt I had to take this dress (and most clothes I buy) to the tailor to shorten the hem, but I decided to leave it as-is for variety in my closet and a more winter-friendly length.  When it gets colder I will be wearing it with tights and tall boots to the office.  I love how emploi creates truly wearable clothing for the professional woman; fashion that is on trend but still appropriate for the boardroom.

  1. Allie, this dress is so pretty on you! I really like that silhouette on you – if it were a little shorter, I’d pick it up for myself in a heartbeat! I’m not sure I can pull off the midi length, but I love how you look in it…like Lissy said, you look so long and lean!

  2. Loved this dress on you and decided to order it myself. Wore it for a children’s holiday country club party. I thought the color might wash out my blonde hair but it looked fabulous on and was so comfortable. I can’t wait to order a few more colors. I’d never heard of emploie ny before but I will be definitely ordering more from them in the future. Thanks for always keeping me chic!

  3. Wow! That dress looks great on you! Proof that us petite girls can wear longer dresses. I don’t know if it’s that the color of the dress and your skin work really well together or if it’s the cut of the dress or what, but you are looking long and lean in that dress. Beautiful!

  4. Commenting for the first time to say this is my favourite look you’ve ever worn! Major Claire Underwood vibes, so clean and chic! LOVE the dress.

  5. Alison – I would love to buy the “Park” Dress featured on the Emploi Instagram feed but I can’t find it on the site. Do you have a contact at Emploi that I could call or email to figure out how to order? Thanks!

  6. I scrolled to that second pic with you strutting down the street, and my immediate thought was, “Work it, girl!!” Hahah. “)

    1. Clicking over to Emploi – I never would have looked at that dress with that model – but it is amazing on you! Gorgeous.

      1. I agree. The dress needs curves to show it off to its best advantage. The model doesn’t do anything for the dress. But on Allie? Transcendent!

      2. I would like to throw my voice into this conversation and wholeheartedly agree! That dress is beautiful on you while it looks downright plain on the model. Now I want one!

  7. This is amazing!!!! My favorite dress on you EVER…and I have been following you for years! I have to get this dress!!

  8. What a fabulous dress and the winter white is beautiful with your hair and make-up. A great decision to leave the hem longer as it does make you look taller, something I am always wanting to do at 5’2″”. That dress will be killer with some gorgeous boots too and the best is that is warm and comfortable. Do you do your own make-up? I need some lessons.

  9. I love the colour and the style but I think I would still shorten it to take it to just under the knee; keeps it long enough for that wintry vibe but think it would hit at a more flattering part of the leg. I like the black and white thing, very classic, but I’d love to see it with colourful accessories too 🙂

    1. I’m with Emily — as the someone who owns a sewing machine, I would have taken it up.
Otherwise it’s a nice looking dress that looks like it’s be at home under a jacket or sweater and not prone to wrinkles. While I may be quick to get my machine out and hem, it doesn’t mean I like to stand around at the ironing board a lot.

  10. You look amazing! I just went and ordered that dress. We have similar coloring and it is a color I’m always nervous about but it looks fantastic on you, so I’m going for it. Thanks for the personal shopping service 🙂
