I regularly take my ponte and knit workday frocks and dress them down for the weekend. They're stretchy, comfortable, machine washable (gentle cycle and line dry), and when paired with tights and flat shoes it makes a great look for dashing around town and still be pulled together enough for going straight to dinner at a restaurant or brunch with friends.  I couldn't resist this dress from Talbots; love the blue hint in the print and the exposed back zipper!

Vionic offered to send me their Nadelle Chelsea Boot and I was excited. I've featured Chelsea boots in so many capsules and advice posts but didn't have a pair myself to style and show on me what I was talking about. This pair was recently featured in O Magazine.  A Chelsea boot is a wardrobe workhorse; while it clearly works with jeans and pants, this look shows how you can also wear them with dresses and skirts. When you're petite and/or curvy, having a shorter hemline balances a sturdier shoe and a low heel. Having your shoe match your legs also elongates your figure. The Nadelle Chelsea boot is extremely comfortable as well as a classic; recommended by Dr. Andrew Weil, the shoe features Orthaheel Technology, a biomechanic orthotic footbed that naturally aligns your feet and may help to relieve heel pain by reducing over-pronation. Vionic feels these shoes run big; I ordered my regular 8 and think they are perfect because the arch support is in the right place and the footbed cradles properly.

  1. Wow Allie, I just read your October newsletter and had to check out this post and the link to the dress at Talbots website. I would not even give this dress a second glance after seeing it on the model. I’d be pretty sure it would not work on my body type but it looks great on you and I’m thinking it may actually work for me too. It really does look better on you than the model.

  2. Just clicked on the link for the dress and I came back to tell you it looks WAY better the way you have styled it than it does on the web site. You look so chic in this outfit.

  3. Love your outfit–you look great! Seeing that dress on you with the jacket & seeing it on the Talbots website–never would have suspected it was the same dress. Just love how you styled it! I am quite a fan of ankle boots with skirts & dresses; just a nice little change from tall boots.

  4. I love Vionic/Orthaheel; I live in the Tide ‘flip flops’ almost year round (I know, not very fasionable!) but I credit them with practically curing my plantar fasciitis. I got my first pair at the podiatrist’s office but our local Belk store now carries them and a few other Vionic styles. I’ll go look for the Chelsea booties! Love the outfit on you.

  5. I just love Talbot’s ponte dresses. I’ve gotten one each year the past 3 years since they are great investment pieces. This year, I got the same one you’re wearing, but in the Juniper green (which I’m not seeing online for some reason). I received so many compliments when I wore it last week!

  6. Allie, I love this look on you. You’ve convinced me to check out Talbots’ petite line after showing so many great offerings they have. I’m happy the Chelsea boot is back in style, as I have some similar Munros from, wow, 11 years ago. The first picture of you is especially cute. You look so sassy!

  7. This is a great look! So cute. I love ankle boots but I am a skirt/dress person, so I usually wear taller ones. These look great on you !

    1. I usually don’t like short boots with dresses on me because my calves/shins/ankles are so thick, but the older I get the less I care about that. I want to be put together but don’t want to be in pain after a couple hours on my feet!

  8. I love the Vionic / Orthaheel brand. Having the arch support even in ballet flats makes such a difference. I will have to try those boots!

    1. These boots are pretty amazing. The arch support, the way the footbed curves up to really hold your foot in place, it made these comfortable to wear all day – I told Karl they’re like a winter version of my Birkenstocks in how they really make my feet happy!
