This is not a drill… Universal Standard has its linen 40% off through August 3rd. IMO, this is a sale worth shopping. I am a big fan of US linen (check out my Universal Standard linen review that features photos of me and my sister in many of the pieces). It holds up summer after summer, the colors are saturated, the styles are elevated, the hint of stretch doesn't take away from the breathability, and it just gets softer (while staying saturated in color) with each wash.
My personal favorites are these pants (all I had to do was hem them to fit well), this dress (as a dress alone or belted, swim coverup, or duster – very cute with the matching pants), this jumpsuit (covers bra straps, I like it without the self belt for comfy summer style), and my sister has this dress in the Ink Bloom Print and each time she wears it someone stops her to ask where she got it.

See/Hear/Read
Last weekend at the beach, my friends and I watched Jerry & Marge Go Large, a 2022 film available on Paramount+ and Prime. Bryan Cranston and Annette Benning star as a retired couple who find excitement gaming the lottery. It's based on a true story, and it's truly charming. Jerry (Cranston) is neurodivergent, really connecting with numbers, sometimes more so than his kids. He and his wife Marge (Benning) have a beautiful relationship, and he becomes a town hero.
For books, I finished The Messy Lives of Book People (mentioned last week) and really enjoyed it. The author Jojo Moyes was mentioned in this novel (it really is a book about book people) and when I went to Libby for a new book, The Giver of Stars was one of the first audiobooks offered as available. Eons ago I read Me Before You and After You but never this book by Moyes and I borrowed it without even knowing what it was about.
It is an historical novel based on the Kentucky Pack Horse Librarians (Smithsonian Magazine). Five women from different backgrounds come together to manage this small town library. Only halfway through, this is very enjoyable but it's very… Fried Green Tomatoes. Not at all the same story but the same vibe.
That being said, the narrator is Julia Whelan who you may recognize if you listen to audiobooks. She has done a lot of Emily Henry, The Women by Kristin Hannah, Educated by Tara Westover. Folks loooove her but I find her voice to sound very cynical and sarcastic and it has made me DNF books before. But I learned on 1.4x speed, she doesn't bother me at all.
For Your Entertainment
It's a little David Bowie, a little Queens of the Stone Age, and I always love to see some grown folks doing it and doing it well… Triggerfinger is a Belgian rock band that formed back in 1998. Originally a trio, member Paul Van Bruystegem passed away last year from a prolonged illness, 55-year-old Ruben Block and 54-year-old Mario Goossens have continued the band with a new album coming out in September. “Through the Beam” is the latest single from it, and I am a fan.
