Rabbit Rabbit: Weekend Reads for November 1st

My daughter's Girl Scout Silver Award was to revitalize a little free pantry outside a church in a nearby city. Since then, monthly we stop by and drop off a couple shelf-stable grocery items but now we're upping it to weekly visits. You can find some of the little free pantries across this country at this link.
Food banks will take donations, but what they benefit from most is money. Food banks can get special deals on food stretching your dollar even further. This page at Feeding America will help you find your local food bank. Feeding America shares that they are able to turn $1 donated into ten meals and especially now, every dollar will make the biggest difference.
World Central Kitchen provides meals to communities affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises. WCK is in D.C.'s Washington Canal Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. serving meals to Federal workers and in Jamaica offering food to those who will be impacted by Hurricane Melissa. If you're focused on a tax-deductible donation, consider World Central Kitchen.
Finally, consider participating in mutual aid to see your money make the biggest impact right in your town or a neighboring community. For my fellow D.C. Metro folk, this Excel spreadsheet has a list of local organizing groups and how to reach out and support them.
Weekend Reads
This was an exciting week, I was interviewed on the Origins of Influence podcast, discussing my 20-year career as a blogger and digital content creator, how Wardrobe Oxygen got its name, how I got started, and how my business is affected by me getting political and personal. Here's a link to the interview on Substack, and here it is on Apple Podcasts. It's also available on Spotify.
I as also interviewed for this piece on how to keep your wide-leg pants from getting soggy on your commute. (Slate)
What the actual f#ck is happening to our work? (The Midst on Substack)
Requiem for early blogging. (Elizabeth Spiers)
How corporate feminism went from “love me” to “buy me.” (The New Yorker)
How beautiful and timeless is this leopard jacket?
For a more casual option, I'm crushing on this coat.
The argument for letting AI burn it all down. (Wired)
Looking for a fabulous host/ess gift for holiday get togethers? I'm thinking of buying a few of these.
The most badass Gen X band is also the most misunderstood. (GenXcellent on Substack)
Did you know DSW carries a large selection of wide width and extra wide calf boots?
US FDA approves Bayer's menopause relief drug. (Reuters)
Sale Alert & Style Inspo
The Sephora sale is here and I usually have my sister share her picks, but Q4 is like a snowball and you blink and a month has gone by. I didn't remember about the sale until I started getting newsletters from other creators about it!
Through the 10th, the Sephora Collection is 30% off and I think this is a really good deal. Sephora's house brand is quite good and already a great price.

I love this longwear lipcolor alone or under gloss, and this gloss is quite excellent (IMO equal to Tower's). My teen swears by these lashes and likes the acne patches. This is a perfectly good setting powder, a great little powder puff that fits right in the corner of the eye and around the nose, and these papers are great for removing shine without adding product. And this is a great shape brush IMO for concealer under the eyes, and I own and love this blush brush.
On top of that, if you're shopping for a teen or young adult gift, the brand is respected (you won't be seen as uncool adult).

These are great gifts to break apart for stocking stuffers or give as-is (or gift yourself!). Prices are after 30% off sale: $20.30 lipgloss trio | $24.50 makeup tools | $17.50 brush set | $24.50 advent calendar | $13.30 lipgloss duo | $14 makeup mists
On Substack, I discussed my winter walking capsule wardrobe and thought I'd share the actual capsule here. It's not exactly what I own since a lot of the pieces are 2-3 years old, but it's darn patootin' similar or what I'd buy now if I didn't have what I already have.

blue leggings (own in different color )| navy leggings (own in 2 colors)| hat (own in different color) | socks (own) | boots (own older version)| printed quarter zip (mine is a decade old)| solid quarter zip (own different one from same brand)| gloves (own different color)| neck gaiter (own same)| sweater fleece (own same)| rain jacket (own same)| vest | headband/ear warmer (own different color)| sherpa fleece (actually own L.L.Bean one but this year's colors aren't my jam)
See/Hear/Read

A few of you recommended I check out Task, a series on HBO starring Mark Ruffalo. I had seen promotion for it, and it sounded not at all like something I'd enjoy but with so many rave reviews I figured I'd check it out.

Created and written by Brad Ingelsby, the same guy who brought us Mare of Easttown, Task also takes place in Pennsylvania with accents in a supporting role. While Ruffalo is the most famous face in Task, Tom Pelphrey (Ozark, Guiding Light, A Man in Full) has just as much if not more screen time. And both actors, in fact all the cast are phenomenal.

The first two episodes are slow and I wouldn't have stuck with it if I hadn't read that things start moving in the 3rd episode. And I agree, it's worth it to stick through… if you can handle a devastatingly emotional and sad story. Because Task is utterly devastating. I legit WEPT during the final episode.

Robbie's brother was Roller in Claws. Yes, that is the same Martha Plimpton from Goonies. Lizzie was Venetia in Saltburn. Perry has been in everything, but maybe most recognized from Sons of Anarchy, Bloodline and Wednesday. And Maeve was the daughter in CODA. Beyond Pelphrey and Ruffalo, this cast is stellar.
For Your Entertainment
If you follow pop culture you know everyone is talking about Lily Allen's new album, West End Girl. Allen's album describes in detail her open marriage with David Harbour and how he broke their agreement. If you thought Lemonade was juicy, this album is a must-listen. But the thing is, this isn't the only news-worthy music that has come out recently.

Rosalía is a Spanish musician who came to international fame with her 2018 Grammy Award-winning neo-flamenco album, El Mal Querer. Fun fact: Rosalía attended the flamenco program at the Catalonia College of Music which is famous for only accepting one student a year, and studied flamenco for over a decade.
Her fourth album, Lux, is coming out November 7th. On Lux, Rosalía sings in 13 different languages and spent two years on this music, training to sing convincingly in all of them. “Berghain,” featuring Björk and Yves Tumor, is the first single from the album and it's like a soaring neoclassic soundtrack from an Oscar-worthy film. In fact, the video itself is worthy of awards. Another fun fact: her fashion in the video is vintage designer, focusing on Lee McQueen and Nicolas Ghesquière. (source) Enjoy.

Alison, thanks for talking about the SNAP crisis and offering ways to help. I can’t believe we now live in a country where (some) of the folks who consider themselves Christians are ok with letting people go hungry. Hmmm, still searching the Bible for where Jesus said that was ok…
Lighter topics—I’m listening to your podcast interview—it’s great! Your blog has been my favorite since I found you years ago (I think your daughter was probably a very young elementary student when I discovered WO) & continues to be so. So thank you! Loving The Laundry Pile as well.
And I read your suggestions in the Slate interview about wide leg pants. Those bike bands are new to me! I’ve got several pairs of wider leg jeans which I really enjoy, but it’s always a little bit of a challenge when visiting public restrooms!
