A Vince Summer Capsule Wardrobe: 20 Outfits from 9 Pieces
TL;DR
The Quick Version
9 Vince pieces in navy, green, and ivory, 20 outfits. Natural fibers, consistent sizing, and a color formula anyone can use. This summer capsule wardrobe covers work, weekends, and summer evenings. Honest sizing notes from a size 14/16, 5'3″ woman included.
Vince is a fashion brand that I have liked for years and think it's a great choice for us grown women.
While the size range isn't as large as I usually feature (XXS/00-XL/16), I wanted to highlight it because I know it can be hard to find clothing that is cool, work-appropriate, and also feels right for us women in midlife. Vince carries high-quality clothing, often in natural fibers, with a limited color palette so it's practically a built-in capsule wardrobe each season.
I think this summer capsule wardrobe exemplifies how Vince fits the bill for work and weekend with elevated, modern, yet versatile style that transcends most trends. I focused on navy/Coastal Blue, green/Fern, and shades of optic white and off-white with sleek yet comfortable accessories that take the looks up a notch and will elevate your existing closet, too.
What's In the Vince Summer Capsule Wardrobe
Nine garments, a few accessories, and from it at least 20 outfits that are truly wearable and chic for us grown women. While the carousel above and this link to ShopMy has all the pieces, I break them down below, too:
Clothing:
- Linen blazer
- Full-length linen pants
- Ankle-length linen pants
- Cotton-blend midi skirt
- Hemp shorts
- Cotton/linen sweater tee
- Cotton blend tank
- Stretch silk shirt
- Matte jersey bubble top
Accessories:
- Embossed leather belt
- Leather and silver belt
- Leather tote
- Leather pouch bag
- Leather sneakers
- Leather sandals
The linen blazer is the power player for this capsule wardrobe. It takes the shorts into work-appropriate territory, is the style to work with a midi skirt, and since the same fabric, looks chic with either pair of pants. A navy blazer is always a wardrobe workhorse; a one-button linen option is a great option for summer.
Vince Sizing: What to Expect
ALISON'S NOTES:
I'm 5'3″ and typically wear a size 14, sometimes a 16, and a L or occasionally XL in tops. With Vince, the same holds true: L or 14 in stretchy styles, 16 or XL in more structured pieces. I find the sizing consistent across the line, which matters when you're shopping online.
Higher-end brands often run small, but I haven't found that to be true with Vince. I have found fit to be consistent, and the sizing similar to what I wear at most other retailers.
Do know, Vince does not carry petites. Because of this, I know my short self can't carry off everything, and some pieces work with a visit to my dry cleaner/tailor for a hem. However, IRL friends and those of you in the Wardrobe Oxygen community who love Vince, find the fit great if taller than 5'4″.
20 Outfit Ideas from the Vince Summer Capsule Wardrobe
20 outfits from nine garments is the average number you should be able to create from a well-formed capsule wardrobe like this. Tap any thumbnail to enlarge the images; tap or swipe through the images, and tap outside the slideshow to return to this screen.
I made this capsule wardrobe to showcase some of my favorite ways to extend a wardrobe without every outfit looking exactly the same.
- Tuck vs. untuck. A full tuck, half tuck, and playing with hemlines like tying and twisting can completely transform a garment and outfit. For example, the silk shirt tucked in looks more dressy or professional, but the silhouette allows it to still look chic untucked, creating a whole different silhouette and vibe.
- Play with belts. Belts are very in style right now, and you can find some really cool options. A belt matching the pants offers subtle elevation, one with a statement buckle is like a piece of jewelry for your waist. Try belting your blazer or wearing a belt with skirts and pants, even if they don't have belt loops.
- Style your blazer. A blazer can have the sleeve pushed up (these tools are great for keeping them in place), rolled up, or regular. Button the jacket, leave it open, or consider belting it. Pop the collar, slip a scarf under the lapels, add a brooch… a simple navy blazer like this can live multiple lives with a bit of play.
- Monochrome vs. color blocking. Having your outfit all one color or similar tones instantly elevates a look. Mixing colors creates a more playful or casual effect. I love having multiple textiles in the same color to add depth and interest: navy linen, silk, even adding a sweater knit to the mix feels luxe.
- Shoes and bags change the vibe. A tote versus a smaller pouch-style crossbody takes a look from desk to drinks. A suit with leather sandals is summer chic; the same suit with sneakers is a casual creative vibe. Shoes and bags can extend a capsule wardrobe exponentially.
These aren't Vince-specific styling hacks; they work with any capsule wardrobe. And honestly, I recommend practicing them with your existing closet before buying anything new. You may be surprised by how they can give new life to what you already own!
How to Extend This Capsule Wardrobe
Nine pieces gives you 20 outfits, but if you add a few more items you can extend this capsule wardrobe to fill a whole season with style. Considering this Vince collection in fern green, navy, and shades of white, I think some pieces that would fit in well are:
- A silky camisole in ivory, navy, or even a print incorporating at least two of the three primary capsule colors
- A cashmere tee in ivory, navy, gray, or even brown or a dark green
- Lightweight jeans in a faded or medium wash
- White jeans in a straight, subtle bootcut, or even barrel cut
- Denim bermuda shorts or longer tailored shorts in navy, ivory, or white
- A Breton striped top in navy/white, navy/ivory, or even black/white or a color pop like coral/ivory
- A summer-weight sweater or lightweight cardigan in any of the capsule colors or another neutral like gray (or the same fabric/color as the cashmere tee)
These are all pieces you may already own, extending this capsule wardrobe for even more style and versatility.
How to Recreate This Capsule Wardrobe Without Vince
If Vince isn't in your size range, budget, or aesthetic, this concept still works. The core logic for this capsule wardrobe is:
- Two neutrals that pair with everything in the collection
- One color that works with both neutrals
- Natural fibers in more tailored of silhouettes for breathability with polish
- At least one structured layering piece (a blazer, a denim jacket, a cardigan) to shift formality up or down
- At least two shoe options: one casual, one slightly more elevated
- Two bags: one casual/professional, one dressy/festive
Similar garments can be found thrifting and at online secondhand boutiques; the silhouettes are classic and clean enough that they don't need to be bought this season. You can also find very similar silhouettes at other retailers that may be a better fit for you and your needs.
Why the Two Neutrals Plus One Color Formula Works
More money, more problems? The same holds true with colors in a wardrobe. When you stick to two neutrals and one color pop, you have personality, variety, but everything works with everything.
When you choose two neutrals, every piece in the collection already works with at least two other pieces. Add one color that works with both of those neutrals, and you've created a wardrobe where everything touches everything else. Navy and green are complementary. Ivory and green feel fresh and natural. Navy and ivory are a classic pairing.
This works with other color palettes; no need to stick to classic neutrals and color pops. A few other combos I love:
- Olive, gray, and a shade of pink or berry
- Tan, ivory, and coral or rust
- Black, white, and cerulean or cobalt blue
- Brown, cream, and a shade of lilac or purple
Look in your closet for the color that you already own and wear the most and build from there. It could be the color pop, or one of the neutrals. And don't be afraid of unusual color combos; this is a big fashion trend for 2026 and with two neutrals, you can switch up the color pop each year or as your tastes change.
Frequently Asked Questions About Vince and Capsule Wardrobes
Is Vince true to size?
In my experience, yes. I wear a 14/16 and L/XL at most retailers, and the same is true at Vince. Stretchy styles run closer to a 14/L; more structured pieces need the 16/XL. I haven't found it runs small the way some luxury brands do.
What size range does Vince carry?
Vince currently carries XXS/00 through XL/16. This is smaller than many brands I typically feature, and I'm transparent about that. If you're above a 16, the capsule concept in this post still translates to other brands at a wider size range.
How many pieces do you need for a summer capsule wardrobe?
This capsule uses 9 garments and generates 20 outfits, but a functional summer capsule can work with as few as 5 to 7 pieces. The key is a limited color palette where everything works together and at least one layering piece to shift formality up or down.
Can I build this capsule wardrobe without buying Vince?
Yes. The concept is two neutrals plus one color, natural fabrics, and simple silhouettes. You can recreate this with thrifted pieces, other brands, or items already in your closet. The styling techniques work regardless of brand or budget.
Is Vince worth the price?
For the fabrics and construction quality, I think it is, particularly when you treat it as a capsule investment rather than individual purchases. That said, you don't need Vince specifically. You need pieces that do what these pieces do: mix well, last more than a season, and work across multiple contexts.

Thank you for the formula. you & one other influencer share this approach/secret. I find that the way many other influencers present their capsules, the capsules come across as random sh*t.
