Holiday Capsule Wardrobe for Grown Women
Way back in 2018, I made a real-life holiday capsule based on what was in my actual closet. While the holidays are often known for red and green, I chose a color palette of navy, black, white, and silver/crystal and found it festive without being so on the nose I couldn't wear it beyond the holiday season. I decided to create a 2025 variation of this holiday capsule wardrobe for grown women like me who want to look chic but also have comfort, versatility, and pieces that won't look dated by Christmas 2027.

Shop the capsule: blazer (00-20/22 & petite) | skirt (XXS-XXXL) | sweater (XXS-XXL) | shirt (XXS-XXL) | striped top (XXS-3X) | silky top (XS-XXL) | pants (00-20/22 & petite) | jeans (0-26 & petite/tall) | purse | lipcolor | earrings | shoes | necklace
I stuck with the navy base color because it feels wintry and festive without screaming a specific holiday or even month of the year. Last year I got a velvet cocktail pantsuit from LOFT and wore it so much (and will wear it a lot this holiday season). LOFT has a belted velvet pantsuit in navy that looks so chic yet warm and comfy and versatile… it was my base for this holiday capsule wardrobe. FYI, the jacket looks great with or without the belt and the silhouette is so classic it should work for a long while.
It's a dated style rule to not mix black with navy. In fact, combining the two colors together in 2025 is very modern and chic. They are also two neutrals that transform with other colors. Add brights or other neutrals and they can feel more formal, more casual, more wintry, more fall or spring.

With my capsule wardrobe sample outfits, I tried to envision harder to dress for events, and I added in a few things I thought may already be in your closet to extend the looks and add warmth or a more casual touch. These are not the only looks that can be created from this capsule, but I hope they get your sartorial juices flowing.

Additional items used: leather ankle boots | leather purse | belt | gold earrings | merino turtleneck (XXS-XXL & petite/tall)
I love creating a holiday capsule wardrobe because in 2025, it's far more chic than a brand new look for every event. It's also less stressful. Separates mean your wardrobe can grow and change with you: tailor the pieces as your body changes, switch out the jeans for a new silhouette, add a silky blouse in a year or two, update the shoes with a pop of color or a new texture. Change can happen, change is good, but change won't set you back as much money or time.
