I know you feel me: by midlife, many of us are running on caffeine, deadlines, and whatever's may be left after taking care of everyone else. Self-care sounds nice in theory, but it's usually the first thing that gets cut when life is a lot. For women over 40 juggling work, family, and a body that plays by different rules than it did in our 20s, we need to care for ourselves more than ever before.

You know the oxygen mask theory? When you're on a plane and it's in trouble, you're always supposed to put your oxygen mask on before helping others. That's not selfish, that's the epitome of self-care. And likely if you're forgetting your oxygen mask, your friends may be, too. The friend going through perimenopause and pretending she's fine, the mom who never asks for anything, or yourself, we deserve care, and these are great gifts for self-care.

This gift guide isn't just for the holidays. Birthdays, breakups, “just because,” and more. I'm a fellow over-40 woman dealing with perimenopause, work stress, teenagers, and life in 2026. Many of these products I personally own, others I have personally gifted to fellow women in midlife. Consider this your shortcut past the algorithm and straight to gifts midlife women actually want, not what a 25-year-old copywriter thinks we want.

  1. Been saving this for review to inspire gifts this year. Going through the list I found I have 5 already myself. I guess you’ve “influenced” me over the years Alison. ❤️

  2. Your list is impressive and comprehensive! 🙂 I had no idea some of these products existed. Having tried other products for hot flashes and sleeping, I am particularly interested in the wave bracelet. I take hormone therapy to prevent the return of breast cancer, and it’s made menopause feel like a walk in the park by comparison.

Thank you so much for this thoughtful list! It is full of wonderful items that will make great gifts.

  3. Many of these delights are new to me and I can’t wait to check them out! I will vouch for the Olive & June pedicure set, though. I bought one in 2020 and have not had a salon pedicure since. And it’s definitely user-friendly, as I’m not particularly talented at doing my own nails! I might spring for a salon pedicure if I were going on a beachy vacation or wearing open-toed shoes for an important wedding, but otherwise, this is how I’m doing my toenails from here on out.

  4. Great list! I could swear I already have a copy of “The Artist’s Way,” but it must be in storage. I will have to look through my storage unit the next time I’m there.

  5. I have the bamboo tub thing. Once I adjusted it to my tub, I used a plastic cable to “lock it” into that position. So now I just plop it on the bath whenever I use it, no fuss.

What I really like about it is that it’s not too deep, unlike another I tried. Which means I can use an overflow drain cover to have the water be deeper & lots of bubbles from Dr Teals bubble bath (yes, there is nicer out there. But I can find it at Walgreens, Target & Publix, so I’m never without)

i also have a stick on the back of the tub pillow, because who can relax against icy porcelain?

  6. Wow! I want almost everything on the list. Thank you for including so many items that may help lessen the severity of (or at least provide some comfort to) my almost constant migraines. I hadn’t been aware of most of your suggestions. I’ve already ordered two of the facial rollers; I want to always have at least one ready to go. I’ll be getting some of your recommendations now (the hot flash stuff!!), but I also know what to put on my Christmas list.

I have a question about the acupressure mat. I have some neck issues which I think could be helped by it. That area is quite sensitive. Can you feel the hard plastic nubbies, and, if so, do they feel pronounced and/or uncomfortable?

I use light therapy for SAD, so I can put in a plug for the Happy Light. Several months ago, I purchased the Luxe model several months ago. It replaced my very expensive and bulky Northern Lights one; after more than 10 years, it wasn’t performing as well, and its large footprint had always been a sticking point for me. I’m very pleased with the Happy Light. The ability to adjust the warmth of the light is huge for me.

Thanks for such a great post. It’s so useful.

  7. Thanks for introducing me to Necessaire—I am a bergamot fan and love their scent. And I have another similarly-priced body wash from a well-regarded brand but Necessaire lathers so much better. It goes a long way.

I’ve been eyeing the Bearaby blanket for awhile—I’ve used a weighted blanket for a long time and I currently have one from Tempurpedic that is supposed to be temp-regulating, but I don’t notice it and the weights in it shift all over! Something knit that won’t shift is appealing, and they’re so pretty, too!

  8. I just learned about these mats from a you tube video and I was immediately intrigued. My husband thinks I’m nuts but I want one – so glad to see this recommendation from you!

  9. Asking more for myself (hehe) — is the body brush light or heavy? I had bought a brush from Amazon, but it was really heavyweight.

  10. What a great guide Allie! I just got the accupressure mat set (I didn’t even know something like that existed) and if it works on me then I know what my sister-in-law will be getting for Christmas. The tea kettle’s got me thinking too…..
