The Best Bras for Large Busts: My Honest Picks by Category
TL;DR
The Quick Version
I've worn a large bust my entire adult life and have tested more bras than I care to count. These are my actual picks for every need: everyday, wireless, t-shirt, sports, summer, strapless, and even pretty options — across a range of sizes and budgets.
I've been writing about bras for over a decade because I believe in creating the content I wish to see in the world. As an over-40 woman who wears a 36F, sometimes a 36G, finding a bra that fits, supports, and doesn't destroy my shoulders by noon has been a years-long project. I've tried the department store options, the specialty brands, the viral picks, and the social media darlings. Some were great… most were not.
This post is my honest roundup of the best bras for large busts across every category you actually need. These aren't affiliate-driven picks I haven't worn or secret sponcon for a paid partnership. These are bras I've tested, lived in, and keep coming back to or bras that the Wardrobe Oxygen community has sworn by year after year. We all deserve great bras, and I hope my list can benefit others.
I have dedicated posts for several of these categories if you want to go deeper; I'll link to them throughout. But if you want the full picture in one place, you're in the right spot.

A Note on Sizing and Shopping:
Large bust means different things to different people. For this post, I'm focusing on bras that work for DD cups and above, with options across a range of band sizes. I wear a 36F and tend to recommend brands that go beyond the standard department store range. If a bra only goes to DDD or has a limited band size range, I'll say so.
A lot of these bras can be purchased at a range of online retailers. I provide shopping buttons for retailers I have personally shopped from as well as the company site (if applicable). This way you have options for shipping and return policies, promo codes, and maybe a chance for a discontinued color on clearance!
Best Everyday Bras for Large Busts
The everyday bra does the most work for us busty women and gets the least credit. It needs to be comfortable enough to forget you're wearing it, supportive enough that you're not adjusting it by lunch, and sturdy enough to survive actual daily life.
What to look for: Wider straps, a finish that doesn't show through linen shirts and fitted tees, a band that stays put, and materials that don't scratch or pill after three washes.
Soma Stunning Support Bra
I have been wearing the Soma Stunning Support bra for years, and love how it both disappears under clothes and gives me fantastic shape. While it can feel a bit heavy in summer, this is a favorite the other three seasons of the year. I have both the full coverage and the balconette, finding the balconette better for lower necklines and the full coverage offering the most seamless look under knits. With Soma, use the size chart. While I am an F cup with UK brands, I am a G with Soma.
Sizes available: US bands 32-44, cups C-G Price: $76 (though Soma often has sales and promotions)
Chantelle Norah Comfort Bra
I love this bra. While it doesn't have me as “high and tight” as the Soma, it's so incredibly comfortable and still offers great shape and support. The seamless design is stellar for those with sensory issues, while also making it disappear under most clothing. And unlike most t-shirt and everyday bras, the Norah comes in fun colors and has a pretty finish.
Sizes available: EU bands 30-42, cups B-J Price: $88
Best T-Shirt Bras for Large Busts
A t-shirt bra needs to disappear under fitted tops without making you disappear in the process. For larger busts, that usually means a molded cup with enough structure to prevent projection while still giving you a smooth line.
What to look for: Seamless or lightly seamed cups, a wide back to smooth, and a shape that works with your body rather than against it.
Fantasie Smoothing Underwire T-Shirt Bra
This is my personal pick and has been for years, even as my bra size has fluctuated. As a person with a shorter torso, I find the cups aren't too high to show in a scoop or v-neck, and the arch at the center panel is full ribs or high tummy-friendly. It may feel a bit tight at first, but after a couple of wears it molds to your body and I've never experienced an underwire popping out.
Sizes available: bands 30-40, cups C-H (UK sizing) Price: $68

Cacique Invisible Backsmoother Lightly Lined Full Coverage Bra
If you're looking for a bra that truly disappears under clothes and smooths out the back, this is a great option. Lightly lined microfiber, it provides good shape without a ton of hardware or padding. And thank you Lane Bryant, for creating bras that have the strap adjustment on the front, not the back! This is a better bra for those with normal to longer torsos; I do find it will peek out of lower necklines with my 5'3″ frame.
Sizes available: US bands 36-50, cups C-H Price: $64.95
Best Wireless Bras for Large Busts
Wireless bras have come a long way. The ones worth your money now offer actual support, not just containment. Yes, you can find shape, lift, and comfort without wires or hardcore hardware.
What to look for: A defined cup shape with more than one layer to offer proper support, a mix of stretch and structure textiles, a wide underband, and straps that don't slide.

Soma Embraceable Wireless Bra
I've written a full review of this bra and the short version is: it's the best wireless bra I've found for a large bust. I wear a 36G with Soma and this bra truly holds everything where it's supposed to be. The fabric has enough recovery that it doesn't stretch out by noon. The straps stay put. It's simple enough of a design to not look matronly, and offers enough shape and support that I wear it out of the house with more relaxed tops and dresses.
Sizes available: bands 34-44, cups C-G Price: $52 (frequently on sale, Soma often runs promotions)

Goddess Celeste Wire-Free Bra
There are plenty of wireless bras out there that come in large sizes, but very few that truly provide support, shape, and separation for larger and heavier breasts. The Celeste from Goddess is the exception to the rule, and offers so much you may find it rivals your tried-and-true favorite underwire. All this, and the smooth finish will disappear under a lot of clothing.
Sizes available: US bands 34-50, cups H-O Price: $59
And while I share it below, I can't not mention the Evelyn & Bobbie Defy bra as a stellar wireless bra for large busts. Read my detailed Evelyn & Bobbie bra review
Best Sports Bras for Large Busts
A sports bra for a large bust is its own category of challenge. You need actual encapsulation, not just compression, to reduce bounce without flattening your chest to your sternum. Most sports bras marketed for large busts still rely on compression, which means you end up with a uniboob and sore shoulders.
What to look for: Encapsulation cups (individual cups, not a single panel), adjustable straps, a wide underband, and a clasp closure so you can actually get it on and off (IYKYK).

Panache Power Wired Sports Bra
Over the years I have tried a LOT of sports bras. Some I thought were amazing and then six months later they were useless. But these bras from Panache? They are durable, they give good shape, and they provide enough bounce reduction for me to do most activities without giving myself a black eye. And, these bras IMO are so comfortable I often wear them in place of my regular bras (especially for sweaty and/or long days). Oh, and it doesn't look so “bra” that you can wear it solo at the gym.
Sizes available: US bands 24-40, cups B-M Price: $84 (though you can sometimes find last season's colors for less)
Elomi Energise High Impact Underwire Sports Bra
If you have large, heavy breasts that scoff at most sports bras, you should try this one from Elomi. With four-part encapsulated cups and sturdy straps that can be clasped in back for a racerback option, this is a well-designed bra made for true support. That being said, this does not look like a sports bra, and the seaming will show through fitted activewear. But honestly, the support and comfort will have you loving this bra not just for workouts, but summer days and everyday.
Sizes available: US bands 32-46, cups D-K Price: $75
Best Pretty Bras for Large Busts
Let's be honest about something. If you have a large bust, you've spent most of your bra-buying life choosing between support and prettiness. The bras that fit are beige. The pretty ones don't come in your size. And the ones that claim to do both usually disappoint on at least one front.
The good news is that's changing, slowly. There are now a handful of genuinely beautiful bras in extended sizes that also do their job. This is my current favorite.
Bravissimo Millie Bra
This bra turned me into a Bravissimo convert. While it has been a favorite place to find a curated collection of large bust swimwear, I never tried the in-house brand of bras until I did a virtual fitting. And now this bra is a go-to for me when I want something beautiful but also supportive. I love the range of colors (and the range of different silhouettes of matching undies).
Pretty bras in larger cup sizes are still harder to find than they should be, but Bravissimo is one of the few brands doing this consistently well. If you haven't had a fitting with them, I'd recommend starting there before you buy. Read about my virtual fitting experience: My Bravissimo Virtual Bra Fitting Experience
Sizes available: UK bands 30-40, cups DD-K Price: $82
Panache Allure Full Cup Bra
This is a gorgeous bra, and one that also offers gorgeous support. Such great support and comfort, I considered putting this in the everyday bra category. But it's too pretty for that. The only issue with the Panache Allure is that the matching undies are all… small. Thongs, low-cut, only covering half the bum… good for some but not for all (including moi).
Sizes available: UK bands 30-40, cups DD-J Price: $80
Best Summer Bras for Large Busts
Summer bras need to survive sweat, humidity, and the particular misery of underwire pressing against hot skin. For large busts, this is even more of an issue as underboob sweat can go from uncomfortable to rash-inducing. These are the bras I find are most comfortable when it's hot and muggy while also working with wide strap and tank-style tops.
What to look for: Moisture-wicking or quick-dry fabric, lighter construction, and straps that are either shaped or convertible to work with summer tops and sundresses.
For a full summer bra wardrobe breakdown, read: Building a Summer Bra Wardrobe
Evelyn & Bobbie Defy Bra
I was torn as to what category to put this bra under, as it is also a stellar wireless bra. However, I especially love it in the summer because it has built-in moisture-wicking and anti-odor technology, molds to the body so it feels like you're not wearing anything, and the shape for me fits perfectly under tank tops and is virtually invisible under thin fitted knits. This is not a cheap bra, but gosh it is good quality, and how often do you find that kind of lift from a wireless bralette?
Sizes available: US bands 30-52, cups C-K Price: $98
Read my full Evelyn & Bobbie review: Evelyn & Bobbie Bra Review for a large Over 40 Bustline
Glamorise MagicLift Moisture Control Bra
This bra has quick-drying fabric that wicks moisture from your skin to keep you cool and comfortable, padded straps for all-day comfort, and a wire-free yet supportive design specifically for larger busts. Glamorise bras always look a bit… dated (hello, little cleavage bow), but they really are well made for full breasts.
Sizes available: US bands 38-50, cups B-H Price: $60
Best Strapless Bras for Large Busts
I'll be straight with you: strapless bras for large busts are the hardest category. They slide down, they are obvious under clothing, and the are so incredibly uncomfortable! But over the years, I have found some winners
What to look for: Silicone grip strips to hold the bra in place, side boning to keep it from folding on itself, a wide band (more hooks than your daily bra is a good thing). Consider going down in band size and up in cup size to get longterm lift and less chance of quadboob.
Wacoal Red Carpet Strapless Bra
My life was changed when I tried this strapless bra. I was so used to needing ginormous heavy-duty contraptions that were a relief to remove once home from an event. This one from Wacoal is so comfortable and also so reliable I now wear halters, one-shoulders, and spaghetti straps even for casual situations. While I wouldn't wear this under a fitted jersey dress (you can see in the photo above it does have some visibility), this IMO gives us big-breasted women the sartorial freedom previously only found by the itty bitty titty committee. A perk: this bra comes with optional straps so you can get even more support with a range of necklines.
Sizes available: US bands 30-44, cups B-I Price: $78
Panache Dana Balcony Strapless Bra
I had a hard time narrowing down which other strapless bra to include here, but decided to choose the Dana from Panache not only because it's really good, but because it's not ugly and has a good size range. So many strapless bras for large busts look like part of a superhero costume, but this bra is simple, modern, supportive, stays in place, and has optional straps to convert into whatever style you desire.
Sizes available: UK bands 34-46, cups DD-M Price: $89
Bra Fitting Resources
Finding the right bra starts with knowing your actual size. Most people are wearing the wrong band size, which makes every other fit issue worse.
If you've never had a professional fitting, or if you've gained or lost weight recently, it's worth doing. I tried Bravissimo's virtual fitting service and it was genuinely useful. Read about my experience: My Bravissimo Virtual Bra Fitting Experience
I also recommend checking out the Subreddit A Bra That Fits. It is a wealth of information, and members have created this tool to measure yourself at home. I have found it quite accurate (scroll down for instructions).

While I have several bras listed above, below are my absolute favorite of them all:
Bra Fitting and Buying Questions, Answered
What is the best bra brand for large busts?
There's no single brand that works for every large-bust body, but brands that consistently offer extended sizing and actually design for larger cups include Soma, Fantasie, Elomi, Wacoal, Natori, and Panache. The right brand depends on your cup shape, band size, and whether you prefer wireless or underwire.
What size is considered a large bust?
“Large bust” generally refers to DD cup and above, though cup size only tells part of the story. A 32DD and a 42DD have very different support needs. The combination of band and cup size matters more than the letter alone.
Is wireless or underwire better for large busts?
Neither is automatically better. Underwire provides more defined structure and is often better for high-impact days or fitted tops. Wireless has improved significantly and the best options now offer real support without the discomfort of underwire. Many large-bust women wear both depending on the day and the outfit.
How often should you replace a bra?
Most bras last 6 to 12 months with regular wear and proper care. Signs it's time to replace: the band rides up even on the tightest hook, the cups are misshapen, or the straps have lost their elasticity and keep sliding down.
How do I know if my bra fits correctly?
The band should sit parallel to the floor all the way around. You should be wearing it on the loosest hook when new. The underwire (if present) should sit flat against your rib cage, not on breast tissue. The center gore should lie flat against your chest. Straps should not dig in or slide off.
Where can I get a professional bra fitting for a large bust?
Specialty lingerie stores like Nordstrom, Soma, and independent boutiques offer in-person fittings. Bravissimo offers virtual fittings and is especially well-suited for larger cup sizes. Read my experience with Bravissimo's virtual fitting here: My Bravissimo Virtual Bra Fitting Experience

She writes about real-life style for grown women, with a focus on honest reviews, size inclusivity, and practical advice you can use whether or not you buy a single thing she recommends.

Thanks for this. We’re the same size, and I’ve been struggling to find bras. My latest pet peeve is ordering Elomi bras and receiving UK sizes, every single time. Nordstrom, Amazon, other online — each sends the UK size, not the US one, no matter the listing or the size chart. I gave up on Elomi and will move on to others. I second your rec for Evelyn Bobbie Defy bras, which is what I pull on when I want comfort.
Hey Alison, great post! And what PJ’s are you wearing??Need them!
They are Soma Cool Nights; this print isn’t available right now but they switch up the prints all the time https://soma.sjv.io/B5zgE4
Thanks Alison! This is such a great post! Have you tried the Sankom Classic bra? I bought one to try it because it was recommended to me and I had to buy more because they helped me so much.
I am going to try some of your recommendations next 🙂
I have not! Thank you for introducing me to a new brand!
Why are they called wireless now? Do they plug in and have a rechargeable battery? The term was wirefree but now it’s wireless. Makes no sense.
I get where you’re coming from, it’s just the word has become so commonplace in modern language, folks “get” it quickly and I think retailers have reacted accordingly.
Alison, what is your top recommendation for an underwire bra with straps to wear under a sundress? I am a DD, five feet tall and want to separate my bust from my waist too.
I like the Fantasie smoothing t-shirt bra it has very clean lines and the straps usually fit under wide strapped sundresses https://www.wardrobeoxygen.com/my-favorite-bra/
Allie,
I have the unfortunate combination of wide shoulders, wide rib cage, not very large boobs, and am overweight. Finding a bra that has a large enough band size with a small enough cup size, B or C, is quite difficult. My Mom used to say that I am barrel chested like my grandfather. I think my Mom meant it as a compliment, that I look strong, which I am. But I didn’t take it as a compliment. I took it to mean that I was shaped like an old wooden wine barrel, which is not too far off. Anyway, it is a hell of a task to find a well fitting bra for this wine barrel! Picture it in your mind and you will understand what I mean. And if you get a laugh in the process, all the better.
Alison, what do you think of Honey love wireless bras?
They weren’t my jam, but I know I am in the minority. I found the side support to hit in the wrong place and be incredibly uncomfortable and I didn’t think they offered enough separation for the shape I desire. It may be because I have a short torso?
I don’t know if PrimaDonna is a brand available in USA, but they make the most amazing and comfortable bras for large busts. I’m a 40I/J and they give great support and lift, amazing shape and they are beautiful and comes in so many colors and styles. They don’t dig into the sides, the straps stay put… it’s like my breasts are almost weightless! I love their soft full cup bras, they give me the best fit and shape. They are pricey, but SO worth it.
I’ve had a few Freya and Fantasie bras when I was a smaller size, and honestly, they are great bras, but they don’t even come close to the quality and comfort of PrimaDonna. I can’t recommend them enough!
Thank you Alison for your comprehensive list of underwire bras for fuller figures. I am 69, 5′ 3and 3/4″ tall and weigh135 pounds. I usually wear a size 6now since recent weight gain has pushed me out of the size 4s in my wardrobe. Though I mostly have a rectangle figure, I have a big bust. I wear a size 34 DDD bra. I asked for a gift certificate for new bras for Christmas. My darling husband complied. I had my first bra fitting in just about forever. It did confirm that I had been choosing the correct size, but finding the right fit was exhausting. I know I tried on at least two dozen different bras. Not all 34 DDDs are created equal! I was falling out the top in some, gapping at the top in others. I tried ordering some 34 DDDs online a year and a half ago and found that all of the bands were painfully tight. They left deep red marks. That’s the main reason I wanted a bra fitting. I thought perhaps that my at home measurements were just wrong. Turns out they were correct, it’s just the bras that I ordered (imho) were not really 34s.
I am convinced that women who say they find underwire bras to be uncomfortable are just wearing a poor fit. If the band digs in, it does not fit you!! Maybe I am wrong – I do not carry much weight around my upper torso (it’s my stomach that always gets any extra weight that I gain – and women who are heavier in that area find that their extra curves cause underwires to dig in. But, I don’t really think that is the case. My 43 year old daughter is much larger than I. She’s 5′ 8″, 260 pounds, and a size 3X. She finds her underwire bras to be very comfortable. She likes the lift she gets from them and finds they really enhance her figure in a way that soft band bras do not.
The next time I go bra shopping, I plan to try some of your suggestions. I do wish that there were some lower cost alternatives for those of us with bigger busts. I have gone shopping for bras at Kohls recently and did not find a single thing in my size. I talked to an associate who confirmed that the store never carries size 34DDD. I cannot understand why, since the size is supposedly the most common bra size in the U.S. Do you have any insights Alison into why some stores do not carry what is a very common size?
I think it’s the same reason why the average woman in the US is a size 16 yet maybe 5% of stores in an American mall carry that size. Larger sizes take more skill to create because you can’t just grade them larger and smaller (hence you experiencing such issues with bras not fitting the way they should). The larger the part of the body, the more it needs a customized fit. Also add in a dash of fatphobia. Yes, bodies of all clothing sizes and weights have large busts, but bigger anything usually is equal to weight and folks don’t think larger bodies are willing to spend for a quality fit. For that reason, I think it’s a bit of chicken or egg… is it that bigger bodies won’t spend because they can’t afford or don’t feel they deserve it or think their body will change and it won’t be worth the price? Or is it because bigger bodies are so accustomed to poor fit and poor quality that they see no value in spending more for what will fit and wear just the same as a cheaper alternative? tl;dr I feel you and it’s frustrating!
Hi Alison,
Thank you for this useful post.
Yes! To the comfort of underwire, & the need to replace every 6 months-ish.
Like other commenters, bras are my single greatest annual wardrobe expense.
In part this is because I have a small-ish rib cage relative to my cup and a deep breast. (32-34 F or G) Other readers of similar proportions might want to try Empreinte. If it fits you, it is hard to wear anything else. The quality is outstanding and you feel it in every detail. It is also very expensive,
-Elizabeth
I appreciate your recommendation, Elizabeth. Thank you so much! I believe a quality bra can improve our entire wardrobe along with the relationship we have with our body. It is a sound investment!
Just wanted you to know this post is still very relevant even though it’s one year later from original publish date. I am kind of a similar build as you, Alison, so I read your reviews with more validity than from others that have more narrow bodies. I’m 5′ 3.5″ tall, and have an apple shape with a flat behind. My 36DDD breasts are round in shape. Lately, I’m more interested in the wireless bras after years and years of wearing underwire bras. I guess I’m into wanting more comfort. I just purchased 2 of the Soma wireless bras after you did such a fabulous in-depth report on them! Thank you for that. My verdict is the same as yours … I’m liking them very much. The size I purchased was 36DDD and it’s a good fit. I need the cups to extend around to the sides under the arms and this bra style does that! Thanks again for ALL of your in-depth reviews. You’re so appreciated.
I am so glad, Barbara! And your comment totally made my day!
In the interest of science and my need for new bras, I ordered a few different bras from Nordstrom, including the Fantasie bra Alison recommended and a Wacoal bra that looked promising (I’ve had good luck with Wacoal in the past). I ordered everything from a 38DDD to a 36 G – 6 different sizes of two different bras. What I discovered is this: breasts are definitely shaped differently and fit into particular bras in different ways. The same complaint I have with Soma bras is what I found with the Fantastie bra – it’s exactly what I’m looking for, except my breasts don’t quite fit correctly into the shape of the cup. I do much better with a cup that is more rounded than teardrop (that’s the best way I can describe it). This experiment has shown me that’s why I like Wacoal bras – the cup shape suits my breasts well. All of this to say – if you haven’t had as much luck with Soma bras or something like the Fantastie bra, try Wacoal!
I, too, prefer a molded cup underwire bra. I am somewhere in the neighborhood of a 36-38 F-G depending on the bra, and I’m not someone that rips off my bra as soon as I am home each day. It’s far more comfortable for me to be in a well fitting underwire! Thanks for these recommendations, I’m going to give the Fantasie bra you have listed first a go. Soma bras don’t fit me well, no matter how many I try – my breasts seem to be the wrong shape for the cups – so I may run into a problem with the Fantasie one as well, who knows.
Thank you so much for these suggestions, especially the one from Evelyn & Bobbie!
Fantasie is definitely my favorite. I prefer the smoothing seamless balcony, which is basically the same as the one you prefer, but without the molded cups, which are shaped wrong for me. Super comfortable, I like the shape it gives, and it’s basically invisible under clothing.
Yes, I have tried this and it’s fantastic!
Hi Alison, thanks for your post. I love the Wacoal sports bra and underwear I got from Soma, fit like glove and so comfortable, but their house brand bras do not fit me at all (34 ddd) for some reason. I have tried 5-6 including the full coverage wireless, your fave, disaster on me. I find their sizing odd. Thankful for their good customer service policy, especially during Covid.
I don’t think Soma is for everyone, a few commenters below feel the same. I’m glad to hear you too have had good customer service with them during this time!
I am also a 36F and love Freya & Fantasie.
Appreciate your content. Thanks.
First time commenter, long time reader here. I really like the natori bliss perfection underwire bra. I’m 5’3”, 140 lbs. and have a small rib cage but larger waist and breasts (32ddd). This bra offers support, coverage, lift and comfort. Plus it comes in a dark brown shade (nude for me)!
Great post, thank you! I just ordered the Soma wireless that you recommend.
I hope you love it, Fawn!
I’m a 36G and I wish that Soma’s bras fit me. I spill out of the underwire cups. But that wire free bra is my jam. I agree that I’m more comfy in an underwire. And a bra with good support makes all the difference in how I feel. I’ve had fantastic luck with Wacoal Basic Beauty Contour T-shirt bra. Alas, I’ve given up on strapless bras.
I’m glad you mentioned that Soma doesn’t fit you because me too! I have narrow shoulders but big boobs, and Soma bra straps always slip. Unfortunate because their bras are so pretty! The whole balconette trend had been bad for those of us with no shoulders because even full coverage bras seem to be built wider than in the past. Since I’m work from home now, (thanks COVID) I’ve been trying out some Glamorise no wire Bras. Not perfect, but they’re comfortable, affordable and perfect for my current uber casual life
I can totally see how Soma bras would slip. With my broad shoulders it’s likely why they work for me!
I prefer a bra and brief to match, and have had most success with the Elomi Amelia brief and bra. With. Size 38FF bust and a size 3x brief, matching sets that will disappear under a tee or a sweater, yet still offer support, are difficult to find. The briefs work best under mid to high rise pants, but since I always wear a tank under a lighter layer it’s not really an issue. Now trying to find sleepwear with bust support. Any tips? Checking out Soma soon. Thank you for the great recommendations!
That’s my favorite bra too! I’m a 40ff and short waisted and it’s the only one where the band doesn’t drive me crazy. I also recently tried the Elomi Charley which is a very similar shape and cup as the Amelia, but available in more colors.
Thanks Alison for this post, very helpful!
My pleasure!
