Sorry I have been MIA, this holiday weekend wasn't terribly exciting fashion-wise but quite busy.

Saturday… I can't even recall what I did. Think friends came over, think we worked on setting up the new receiver and hooking the PC up to the TV… I think that night we went out to dinner to a local Mexican restaurant.

Sunday, I know we watched football with friends.

Monday, I cleaned the house. That night, we had a couple we are good friends with over. Tiff made baked ziti and an awesome spinach, feta and fruit salad and we drank lovely champagne and chilled out.

Picture 0018Picture 0023I wore an ivory and black satin dress from Mossimo and black flats from Naturalizer because I knew I would be in the house and wanted to be comfortable. Silver hoops and cuff bracelet.

Hair was washed and conditioned that morning and air dried sans product. That evening I hit a few pieces with the curling iron and used a bit of Jonathan Silky Dirt and let it be.

Makeup was L'Oreal True Match concealer in W1-3, L'Oreal True Match foundation in C3, Smashbox Soft Lights in Tint, Nars blush in Orgasm, Trish McEvoy shadows in a light purple and gold, Sephora eye pencil in grey, Cover Girl Lash Blast in black, Nars lipstick in Dolce Vita.

New Years Day, we did a whole lot of nothing. We played with our new stereo/TV system, slept in, putzed around. It was quite nice.

Wednesday, I was back to work. As you can see from the pictures from NYE, all the boxes for the new electronics and the old electronics are behind the office door, making it tough to take my morning picture. I didn't feel like struggling so you don't see a picture of my second-day hair, black merino crewneck from Banana Republic and ivory wool blend trousers from Ann Taylor. You didn't miss much.

Picture 132Picture 139Today, I am wearing a purple knit ruffled and bowed top from Old Navy, black pencil skirt from Old Navy, black tights from Target, black heeled oxfords from BCBGirls and my silver cuff.

My hair was washed but not conditioned, I put in a bit of Jonathan Silky Dirt and let it air dry. I used a dryer to smooth the bangs and twirled pieces around my fingers with a bit more Jonathan Silky Dirt. Looks far better in person than in the photo.

Makeup is L'Oreal True Match concealer in W1-3, True Match foundation in C3, Nars blush in Orgasm, Revlon ColorStay shadow quad in Neutral Khakis – ivory over lid. Lashes curled, Cover Girl Lash Blast in black, Maybelline UltraLiner in black on top lash line, on lips is Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Shine That Pink.

Hope is to have all the boxes gone today so pictures should be far better on tomorrow!

  1. My sister answered it all in regard to shopping in DC! 🙂

The closest mall is Pentagon City and is metro-accessible but I worked there for a couple years and was never in awe by the selection of stores (Macy’s, Nordstrom, Sephora, regular chains…). Driving distance is Tyson’s Corner which is so massive it has two separate buildings on opposite sides of the highway, but it’s a bear to get to if you don’t know the area or it is rush hour. But if you are looking for a specific chain store, it most likely has it.

And yep, $9 I think from Target. Slight nag but when telling this to my friend I couldn’t even find the snag. My plan is to wear it for work with black tights to make it less dressy, and in Spring with strappy black heels and my black jet strand of beads.

And yes… I have lost weight. My beloved Old Navy pencil skirt spins around my hips as I walk. New job, not so bored and frustrated, walking to and from the Metro, cutting out workday snacking, cutting down portion size for dinners and ensuring I have a daily breakfast. I’m the crazy woman who always loses weight at the holidays and gains it back in the summer. Hopefully this time it sticks! 😀

  2. I know it isn’t exactly appropriate to comment on this very sensitive topic but I think you’ve brought this up before so I’ll venture to comment on it.

You look like you’ve lost weight! I’ll have to get my butt in gear or you’ll no longer be my body double.

Regardless, you always look amazing. I love visiting your blog for insperation.

  3. There really aren’t any malls within DC city limits – Georgetown has one, but there isn’t much inside. However, M St and Wisconsin Ave in Georgetown have a lot of great stores – including Barney’s Co-op and Cusp.

Chevy Chase/Friendship Heights is another area with good high-end stores.

For more funky, unique-to-DC stores, check out U St. – there are also a lot of great restaurants and bars there so you can make a day of it.

  4. Hello Allie
I am coming to Dc in Febuary and I was wondering if you could tell me the best malls to vist while I am in DC. Can also tell me about any hip store that would be fun. Thank you again. The target dress is very cute.
