I forgot to set my alarm last night. My body woke me up at 7:15 (glad it wasn't 8:15) and I had 45 minutes to get myself together and out the door. I had pulled this skirt out of my stash of potential winter things and a month ago it was just too tight, too short, and I thought I would re-eBay it. I pulled it on this morning since it was sitting on the cedar chest at the foot of the bed… and it fit! Only thing wrong is I guess the hem dry rotted and has fallen out while wearing (easy to fix). Very excited to have another leather skirt in my arsenal!

New bag – I had $40 in Nordstrom rewards, saw this bag for $129 and decided to try it.  I have wanted a bigger bag to carry my netbook and such, and wanted a soft black purse (currently have my Banana Republic one which is that textured hard leather like a football). Love the bag, so soft, holds so much, necessary front pocket (with magnet closure) and hey… gotta love such a quality bag for only $89!

Sorry for the delay in posting, work has gotten really hectic. Glad I stocked the office fridge with Lean Cuisines because that's the only way I get to eat anything. The only time I have left my desk is to hit the printer or the bathroom (and refill my water bottle!). Whew, what a crazy couple of weeks!

  1. I am going to do a post about the red lipsticks I have recently tried, but I really love gloss balms for those who are hesitant with red. CoverGirl Natureluxe has one, but you can always DIY with a nice coating of a waxy lip balm like Burt’s Bees under a regular lipstick – will mute the color, make it more transparent. Try more of a wine color so it’s not quite so Snow White.

  2. I LOVE this outfit, I think your lipstick is fantastic and pulls everything together. The pop of the scarf looks great. You have convinced me to try a red lip, will shop for something this weekend. Any tips for finding the right red, my hair is very black and I have pale skin so don’t want to end up looking too Snow White!

  3. I love this leather skirt! Isn’t it fun to do some “shopping” for free in your old clothes?

You look great! I love the pop of color on your lips and in your scarf.

  4. I didn’t get a chance to leave my office all day so I was fine. Also I usually get hot on top instead of bottom. Survived the commutes okay, if I was wearing longer sleeves I probably would have been a hot sweaty mess 🙂

  5. Oh thank you so much Nadya! That’s too sweet! I don’t mind criticism, I’m not perfect and I have made a choice to put myself out on the Internet. But when folks attack me and my family and get personal it just gets to be too much. 🙁

  6. It seems strange to see you in all black!!
I think if you wanted a bootie your Miss Sixty’s might have worked better with this outfit.  These look like they might be more suited to trousers.
Apart from that, kudos for getting ready so quickly!

  7. You look fantastic, and I think you just sold me on that bag. I am having a heck of a time finding a bag for this winter.

  8. I love this look! The scarf is fabulous pop of colour! I must go to my parents and look for my old leather skirt – I am sure I would not have gotten rid of it.??

  9. Great tips Allie, thanks! Look forward to your post on red lipstick! Love reading your blog by the way, I normally save it for last when I read blogs in the evening after work. It’s easy to connect with you as you write about fashion for real life if that makes sense and makes me put some thought into how to rework pieces in my wardrobe.

  10. Thanks Misty! It was such a surprise to have this skirt fit, I always meant to get rid of it because I felt it was made for a more hourglass shape and that even if I did get down to that size it would look like a bell on me. Guess I am more hourglass than I thought!

  11. I love all of your leather skirts! I am on the look out for an affordable one myself. 🙂 The scarf and red lipstick are a great ‘pop’ to the outfit.

  12. Always love, love, LOVE you in black!  That scarf adds just enough color and I love the way you way you have it tied.  I’m going to have to copy your look for tomorrow except with pants.  Congrats on getting ready in a flash!

  13. For really heavy duty opaque, Spanx. For regular opaque that holds up but is more everyday… Nordstrom Control Top (what I am wearing). They always have them on super sale for their anniversary sale, are usually around $8 if you buy more than one pair and survive me even dashing down the sidewalk in my stockinged feet to the mailbox!

  14. Great save!  I saw on Twitter that mean people are being mean, so I wanted to post for the first time and tell you how much I enjoy your blog!
