A couple weekends ago, I attended an outdoor wedding. Our friends' Big Day was hot – extremely hot, and extremely humid. There was also a chance of rain. Not only was I an invited guest, but Karl was the hired photographer and I was to assist him in organizing guests for posed photos. Emerson was also invited, so I would also be chasing after her. I knew I had to dress in a way that would keep me comfortable, mobile, yet festive. I chose a floral print silk maxi dress and flat sandals but knew my underpinnings would be just as crucial. The Friction Affliction, we’ve all been there. That bow-legged stride that aims to keep a dreaded thigh fire from ruining your day. Heat and humidity, sweat and running around plus curvy girl chub rub can quickly make a gal miserable. There was no way I was going to experience Friction Affliction at this wedding. And the Shake Down. You know when you wear a silk dress and it rubbing against your undergarments causes static cling? I had no time for the one part wiggle, two parts tug dance on this day. Thank goodness for Jockey Skimmies®. I’ve written about them before, I think they’re pretty darn fantastic and they literally saved my skin all last summer. So when Jockey reached out and asked if I’d like to try another pair this year and share how I was #SavedBySkimmies it wasn’t hard to say yes. And for this wedding, I wore my new Jockey Skimmies Slipshorts.

Some Instagram photos of the wedding: the hazy humid ceremony, me dancing between the ceremony and reception, with my sweaty daughter during the ceremony, my daughter and I taking a silly and very sweaty and rain-soaked selfie after the reception

No Friction Affliction, my thighs were happy campers all day and night, through humidity that felt like pea soup, sweat that rolled down my back and legs for hours, a torrential downpour I got caught in on two separate occasions, and all the dashes I did to help Karl, tend to Emerson, and enjoy the event. As for The Shake Down? The only shaking I did that day was my booty as I danced to live music from afternoon until dark. Jockey Skimmies aren’t control garments so there’s no muffin top, no gas pains from being squished for hours, no tell-tale thigh dents, and the shorts don’t roll or sag or ride. Honestly, with the combination of the dress and my Jockey Skimmies I didn’t have to think about what I was wearing all day. And honestly, if I didn’t receive these Skimmies from Jockey the week before the wedding, I would have worn another pair of them because I know they’re the best to wear for such a situation. 11. I would love to be saved by skimmies! I currently wear my yoga shorts under my skirts and dresses all summer, not only to prevent sweat-rash but also to prevent having to worry about windy-weather Marilyn Moments. But they do tend to bunch up at the legs because I’ve been wearing them so much that the legs have stretched out a bit, so I end up having to yank them down waaaaaay too often. So it would be lovely to update my options!

  12. I live in a hot place ( I can see the hills of Mexico from my kitchen window) I’m in my 60’s and in a wheelchair. But, I still want to stay cool, comfy and look sexy. Save me skimmies!

  13. I’d like to be Saved By Skimmies this summer when my hubby and I go out for our biweekly date nights. It sounds like the Jockey Skimmies Short Length Wicking Slipshort would keep sweat from bothering me so much on hot nights.

  14. I would love to avoid the chub rub waddle and also not fear my lack of skills to be lady like in a skirt is going to show a tad too much.

  15. I wear skimmies everyday at work! I’m on the other end of the spectrum when it comes to body types (hope you don’t think I’m an impostor on your blog), but I need relief from thigh sweat and rub too.

  16. OMG, I was just trying to figure out what to wear under dresses when we go to Italy this summer, in their hot/humid weather. Girl, you have perfect timing! This is exactly what I was looking for. I would love to win a pair but think I’m going to get a couple right away.

Alison-which ones would you recommend? I have a big concern with the heat and humidity when going on this trip but I also want good coverage. Thank you!

  17. I live in a hot humid climate. Outdoor functions can be tortuous without the right clothing. Jockey Skimmies would be a leg saver for me. Maybe even a sanity saver!

  18. Pencil skirts in summer are already a fright…these seem better than my ninth grade volleyball Spandex.

  19. Oh I love this!! I have two pairs of basic bike shorts that I wear under dresses, but they’re kinda short for me and they ride up at the legs, so I would LOVE to try the Jockeys brand to see how they work better! I also really like that they come in anti-static. I want to wear skirts and dresses a lot this summer so these would really help out!

  20. This is so frustrating! After your post last year, I went in search of Skimmies. It sounds like such a perfect summer solution. As a plus-sized woman, I deal with chub rub. As a preschool teacher, I never know when little hands may grab or flip my hemline. However, Jockey has stopped their sizing for this item at 18/20. I think a lot of plus sized ladies would like a better option than torturous shapewear. Please Jockey, extend your size range.

  21. Love the jockey skivvies I bought last summer – and planning to buy another pair this summer. It’s now a go-to item any time I wear a skirt. They are so comfy and work perfectly. Looking forward to being saved this summer, again.

  22. I would like to be #SavedBySkimmies for the days I choose to wear a dress instead of shorts when I am spending the day with my kids.

  23. I have a pair that I bought last summer and they are honestly fantastic. I have a few weddings coming up (including my own) and no desire to be a squished sausage (my friends provide fantastic food, I want to be able to enjoy it) so I need to buy another pair soon!

In less formal occasions, they’re also perfect for a Ren Faire 🙂

    1. The kids were acting exactly as they were brought up. You expect these type of parents to admit it was wrong? Their apology would be only false at best but if you need it to understand they did wrong then I apologize for them. Feel better??

  24. I would love to try Skimmies this summer~my thighs are definitely mermaid-bound, yet I love the coolness of skirts & dresses in the humid Southern summer!

  25. I’m hoping these may be the cure for my eternal darned wedgie problem! Even Grannies climb.

  26. I’m going to Kohls or Dillard’s soon to find these! I actually needed them today & made do with Spanx instead, while wondering if there was an alternative. Strangly enough, I planned to email you my question about this issue & what should appear in my email: your blog post. You read my mind. Thanks!

  27. Allie, i bought one pair last year after you wrote about them, and they are LIFE CHANGING! I wore that pair once and immediately bought FOUR more! I love to wear dresses to work and while traveling on vacation, but couldn’t do it if there was a chance the temperature might spike over 70. Now I love them not just for hot weather, but as an extra layer when I ride the bus every day, and defense against the wind tunnels in SF that threaten to blow up my skirt!

  28. I’m a hippy, thunder thigh kinda gal. There, I own it. when I was slimmer as a teenager (mid 20’s ish now) I still had my thunder thighs no matter how much I work/ed out. It’s what nature gave me and I’ve learned to embrace them. I however, in the summer love skirts and dresses and practically live in them. I don’t care for shorts (prefer them long, but they still don’t flatter and ride of the crotch. I prefer Bermudas as well because I don’t like to show my thighs, are more comfy, etc.) as ive never found the holy grail pair for me. Why I love embracing my inner gypsy with my flowy dresses & skirts, what I don’t love is the chaffing and the dreaded Friction Affliction. ( love that term!) I’d something like this, something smoothing but not stifling and keeps me from jiggling and sweating, AND isn’t detectable and moves with you. I’d love to try this! And for $20 a pair? SOLD!

  29. Holy Cow! Where have these been all my life?!?!!! I’ve tried the old lady poly bloom shorts and they are too loose and ride up your crotch. I’ve used shape wear but who wants to feel like a sausage on 90+ days in the summer? Not I, said the Cat! I’d LOVE to try these. Jockey-who knew?!

  30. I absolutely LOVE the skimmies. I found out about them over a year ago, we were going to Italy in July, which meant hot weather and dresses or skirts to visit churches and other holy places. We went all over and I was so comfortable and cooler since I could wear dresses instead of capris or slacks.

  31. Oh, I can also vouch for the fact that these are great! No chub rub and the long ones don’t ride up at all.

  32. Oh, how I wish this was around when my 12 year old self wore a peasant dress and my first Candies slides to a wedding in Florida in 1979. My first, but unfortunately, not my last encounter with the dreaded chafe!

  33. I coach T-Ball in Michigan. Yesterday I wore shorts due to humidity and I could not stop my underwear from riding up, my theighs from chaffing and my belt line from rolling over. I need skimmies to save me so I can coach the rest of the season!

  34. Thanks for this review! Just moved to a humid climate.. it’s hot hot hot and I want to wear nice flowing dresses without my thighs chaffing! Haha!

  35. I meant to add that I found a few pairs at Ross for 8.99 over the past year and Kohl’s has them on sale this week for $5 off.

  36. I bought the Skimmies Slipshort after reading your last review and love them. I don’t like the other versions – only the long slip short. They are so cool under skirts and dresses. These have replaced the pettipants I used to prefer. I have a friend who I sent your review to and she wears them exclusively even under pants and shorts. I wear cotton underwear under mine. I sent a pair to my daughter who wears pencil skirts every day in DC and she is a convert, too.

  37. You introduced me to these several years ago and they are now an integral part of my summer wardrobe! I often wear skirts as my tourist-wear, for walking around a town all day. These prevent chub rub and yet allow me to wear skirts, which are cooler than shorts. Just a few weeks ago, I wore them around Istanbul, where I wore long skirts for modesty but had to deal with warm weather and lots and lots of walking. And I can rinse them out (or even wash with shampoo) in a hotel sink and they are usually dry the next morning and ready for wear. I need to try a shorter pair, and maybe some of the colored ones so that if they show, they look more intentional.

  38. I’ve been wearing these too!! SO comfortable! I made a promise to myself that i would wear a dress at least once a week and always wear skimmies under! SO COMFY! No rolling and fairly smooth look. Wearing a pair RIGHT NOW!

  39. Because bodies are wierd, I have thigh gap and STILL get the dreaded chub rub on hot days, especially if lots of walking is involved! Would love to try a pair of these, I managed to flash an entire Army convoy at the gas station this past weekend when the wind picked up!

  40. These sound awesome! I need these for the chub rub and to have a little modesty for getting out of the car, etc.

  41. sweat and humidity and heat + the maxi skirts and dresses I love for summer do not = comfy for me. Skimmies would save me from the stick together legs!

  42. I would love to try these. I’ve sworn off shapewear due to the discomfort from the binding but I do miss the friction control, especially as the weather gets warmer.

  43. I bought a pair of Jockey Skimmies just a few weeks ago after remembering your posts about how nicely they work. I was getting dressed up and going out for the first time after having my second child. The Skimmies were the most soft, cool, and comfortable, (even enjoyable to wear) under pinning I have tried. I was so pleasantly surprised, I vowed to buy many more pairs. I would highly recommend them even if you aren’t fighting a friction issue.

  44. I LOVE the skimmies! I bought them after reading your review of them last year, actually. The shorter ones do ride up my legs, but the longer ones are incredible. I wear sundress in comfort now! Even broke out an adorable white eyelet skirt that I hadn’t worn in ages because in know it will be comfortable with my skimmies under it.

  45. I’m always trying to escape the dreaded “chub rub”! Plus they’re great for modesty… something I remembered was very important when the wind got my skirt this morning and showed my underwear to the world!

    1. I will never forget walking to the metro, my laptop back caused my dress to hike up showing my bike shorts and a homeless man who I thought was sleeping perked up and yelled, “Hey girl I can see your GOODIES!” You can’t see my goodies if they’re clad in black lycra! 🙂

  46. I love jockey skimmies. I’m wearing a pair right now. I need them when I wear a skirt to work, but don’t want to wear a control garment for 10 hours!

  47. I am on the hunt for the perfect under-dress solution. How high do these go? I prefer a short that goes to the under-bustline – I am apple to the max and things that hit at or around my waist tend to roll.

    1. I’m an apple too and I love how these go high enough to not roll, and are crafted in a smart way to not roll or dig. I have the regular and short lengths and the short ones do ride up on the legs, but now I have three pairs of these and none of them roll at the waist. 🙂

    2. I am an apple too and these don’t roll on me. I absolutely HATE the rolling! I think you will like these if you try them.

  48. Oh, the static. It’s ruined many a candid photograph for me. So, the shakedown sounds like it was made for me!

  49. These would be wonderful. I despise those items that suck you in and you can’t breath. But It would be so nice to have something to wear under maxi dresses a skirts. I have grown extremely fond of both. I have a tendency toward the Friction Attraction. LOL

  50. I have a different brand that I wear under my dresses but I would like to try Jockey out especially the No Friction Affliction for the summer.
