A work-friendly capsule wardrobe for our new normal 🏢

Only heading into the office 1-2 times a week? Don’t want to have to shove your feet back into uncomfortable work shoes or buy shoes just for the office? This capsule is based on just one pair of shoes (boots from @naturalizer I own and love) but could easily be switched to boots or sneakers currently in your closet.

These pieces are office friendly but can also work for weekend and nights out. Almost will transition beautifully to spring and nothing is so trendy it won’t still be stylish this time next year. And I chose retailers with decent size selection and good quality to price ratio. You can have big style with a small closet and look chic while being comfortable!

Whoever said white can’t be worn after Labor Day is stuck in the 1900’s. It’s 2023 and style doesn’t come from what you wear (or when) but how you wear it.

The best style tip I can give you for 2023 is break every style rule that was ingrained into since childhood. They’re a quick way to look dated and the long con into feeling shame for not being wealthy, white, and slim.

I recently got these white wide-leg jeans from @talbotsofficial and wasn’t going to wait for warm weather to rock them. I chose a favorite turtleneck sweater (@lovechicos) and leather boots (@naturalizer). The dark color and obviously cold-weather pieces make the white purposeful.

I Alison-ized it with some bold pops of color (coat is @anntaylor tote is @talbotsofficial) which brightened a cold gray winter day. 🌈

My favorite style hack to “tuck” in a top over skirts, pants and dresses: use a @beltawaybelt (not sponsored just a fan)

This adjustable elastic belt has a flat buckle that disappears under knits (no metal so it doesn’t have to be removed at TSA). Place the belt anywhere from ribs to hips where you want your top to be tucked. Fold the hem under the belt; the elastic will hold the top in place even if you raise your hands and the width is perfect: no rolling or twisting.

Guess my favorite color 🍊

I love color in general but my absolute favorite is orange. And when we’re in the gray days of winter there is no color that is a better pick-me-up for me!

The cotton sweater and leather tote in this fantastic shade of orange are from the @talbotsofficial new arrivals. I’m wearing L in this sweater and it’s loose enough to fit over a turtleneck or other layer, but not baggy.

The jeans are @landsend and in my most recent #capsulewardrobe they’re stretchy and launder great. I’m wearing a 14 and chose the 30” inseam. This is the middle wash.

The coat is the most gorgeous color of fuchsia and from @anntaylor and while the coat is out of stock Ann Taylor is one of my favorite places for gorgeous outerwear and bold colors. The coat is XL petite; another reason I love Ann is for having petites over a size 10!

The scarf as a belt is old from @cabiclothing the boots are a discontinued style from @drmartensofficial the rug is @rugs_usa the sofa is @albanyparkhome the yellow pillow is @amazon the printed one is by the artist @zoeschlacter the necklaces are @etsy and gifts.

What I wore 10 years ago this month with one of the top songs of January 2013. Let’s see what I still own…

Honestly all I still own are the tall black boots and that big black leather tote. I stayed this size a very short time and sold much of this on Poshmark. The pieces I did keep I ended up donating during lockdown as they were collecting dust. So many beautiful things (that green ponte dress! That metallic moto!) but they aren’t right for the person I’ve become over the past decade and I’m glad they’re serving the closets of other people.

I believe in rewearing pieces, I am anti-tossing because and item is no longer seen as on trend. Style isn’t from what you own but how you wear it. But with that, life changes us. In the past decade I changed jobs, my toddler became her own person, and my body changed (goodbye fad diets, hello weightlifting and then Peloton). This world also changed and with it my mindset on fashion and my priorities.

Especially this time of year we can think we need to create capsules, minimal wardrobes that last forever, have a signature style. Focus on quality and making more style with less, but give yourself in your wardrobe room to grow. You’re not done blooming! 🌻

Great minds dress alike… 👯‍♀️

While we may have known we’d both wear our @jibrionline for @amazonthedrop pieces tonight we didn’t know we both bought the same print. I can’t think of anyone I’d rather twin with than my sister @debbiefaye78 🥰 and no better time than Christmas Eve 🎄 we didn’t plan it but both ended up also wearing matching @lovechicos earrings!

@debbiefaye78 made a delicious dinner for all of us and it was a beautiful evening and I’m so glad my mom, sister, and we live so close to one another!

With Four Seasons’ iconic impeccable service and the phenomenal food of Bourbon Steak, my friends @districtofchic @sylviacolella and I had the most delightful evening. These chalets can be reserved for Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day or any special occasion.

As for my outfit, it’s a green velvet suit from @universalstandard I got a few years ago. I made it comfy casual with a white tank and sneakers and added some whimsy with a pink metal mesh dumpling clutch from @ninashoes
