Okay, today being away from Emerson really has hit me. Last night I came home and I felt as though I had to reintroduce myself to her. She was very fussy and also clingy. This morning I was late because she slept longer between feedings last night (hello 5.5 hours in one session!) and it was either feed her and be late or have my husband feed her from a bottle as soon as he got back from taking me to the Metro. I wanted that last chance to do something for her that no one else can do. I work for an amazing company, like what I do and who I work with, but if I won the lottery… I would be home with Emerson. Yes, I would still care about what I was wearing, but it would be with her. Too bad I can't bring her to work, put her in a sling, have her swing next to my desk, a Pack and Play next to the file cabinet… 😉

In Allie Fashion news… I am so not my old size or shape. I was going to wear a dress today, but realized I don't own black tights. So I tried plum, which made me and my dress look like middle-aged goth wannabe. So I thought… I used to wear my plum tights with my brown suede tall boots and my dark red merino dress from Banana Republic… I put on the boots and they fit – the swollen legs are gone! I go and put on the dress… and that which used to be a shift is now a skintight tube dress and NOT cute. Husband said, “are you really going to wear that to work?” Yeah, that was my attempt at some sassy fashion this early on… need to work out some before I can attempt the cute clothes in the back of the closet…

  1. And yet…you still look amazing! Anyone who’s had a baby has been there (celebs notwithstanding.) It’s hard but I promise that new-mommy glow is all we see.

And did I read that right? 5.5 hrs w/o feeding? Go Emerson!

You are doing right by her with all that you do.

  2. I just said the same thing yesterday – that I wish we could win the lottery so we could stay home with the baby all the time. It sucks!

  3. i can appreciate what you’re going through — i had to buy almost all new work clothes. i can’t wear dresses (i’d have to undress to breast feed/pump) and now my new pants are a tad big, but i refuse to buy the next size down and am waiting a bit.

    it gets better.

and the whole working thing gets better. i’ve been back since december 1 and it’s now not so bad. you get back into your groove. it takes time though.

    good luck!

  4. I have SO been there, honey: don’t worry, it’s all gonna come back. Your Sassifiedness is waiting for you! Not that that helps much while you have to wear the same pair of pants every day.

One of my two pairs of black work pants is falling off of me and so are my black capris. I left work 2 hrs early yest, ran some errands, and decided to go in Old Navy. Tried on half the store and left with…a new outfit for my daughter.

    Sigh. Welcome to Mom Shopping!

  5. Aw . . . don’t worry! As determined and motivated as you usually are, you’ll get your regular figure back in no time!

And you still look really good for someone who is living on one pair of trousers.
