I don't find photo sessions fun. Maybe some bloggers do, but I feel it's a means to an end. I feel awkward and goofy standing in my court while my husband takes my photo like I am some sort of celebrity, but then the result is I can use the results on my blog and share my wardrobe with you. I feel as a blog-reader (okay, blogaholic) that blogs are so much better with pictures and not just a stream of Polyvore collages and images from other sites. It's easier to explain my purpose if I can actually show myself on here. I think these pictures (which were the best of the dozen my husband took) show my awkwardness, my feeling of, “Can we just end this so I can get on the Metro and finish reading my bookir?t=whaevewomneei 20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=0385341008?” (though the last one was because Emerson was singing some song with Mommy in it and I was looking in her direction)

I was so happy, yesterday I never got a chance to eat lunch, I was so slammed so at 3:15 I went down to the building lobby to get a Cup-O-Noodles ir?t=whaevewomneei 20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B0047T55QYfrom the gift shop. I came up the elevator and bumped into my supervisor who asked if that was the first thing I had eaten that day. When he found out I hadn't eaten and had been at work since 6:45 he sent me home. Wednesdays my mom watches Emerson so I headed home, my husband and I dashed to the market to get sushi and a bottle of wine and we had a minidate out on our deck, relaxing and spending some quiet time together. Emerson came home from my mom's already sleepy so we did a quick dinner, bath, and she was in bed by 8pm. And I was in bed by 9! I needed that rest (speaking of rest, so psyched about this LivingSocial deal for a mattress place in Maryland – on my way to a new bed!).

  1. Oh pshaw. I think you look like your genuinely lovely, friendly, sweet, approachable self in these. And I am not at all biased. 😉

Also swooning over that marvelous skirt. SWOONING.

  2. I love this outfit!  I already have the striped top and I’m on the lookout for a coral skirt.  Thanks for the inspiration.  And thanks always for writing a fashion blog for women who work and want to look pulled together but aren’t a) wealthy b) built like a supermodel c) 23 years old!  I am a 38 year-old professional in the education field with a small daughter at home.  I keep coming back to your blog as the fashion blog that matches my style and lifestyle the best.

  3. I don’t read any fashion blogs if they don’t have pictures wearing their outfits. I think it’s so much more real. Otherwise we could just be reading a sales catalog. Thanks for putting yourself out there. And you always look great!

  4. This outfit just has that WOW factor.  The red skirt is amazing…the pairing with that top………..I just love it!

  5. That red skirt is my favourite of yours. I have a question….I’m small on the bottom and big on the top, including shoulders. Do you think I could wear stripes on top?

  6. I have to make myself laugh when doing photoshoots, from the sheer ridiculous-ness of it! Love, love that skirt, and the whole outfit is amazing.

  7. After many, many photo sessions (some in public), these are my favorite ways to loosen up:

    1. Sing a silly, upbeat song in your head.
    2. Props!  Food is fun.  Gives you something to do with your hands and you can eat it afterward!
    3. Make silly faces and dare your photographer to capture them before you replace them with your winning smile.
    4. Alcohol.  Maybe not great before work, though!

  8. I hear your frustrations, but I also hear your rationale.  It’s so much better with pictures–REAL ones.  And considering how cute that red skirt is, I wouldn’t feel awkward at all!
