I dug the slouchy shirt with the crisp skirt in the mirror; my husband said the outfit was “casual chic” but in the photos I think it looks a bit sloppy. I am not the best model; I get in front of the camera and get so stiff and awkward and worry about the lack of time, the neighbors watching, Emerson waiting in the car behind my husband (the photog) and it doesn't help translate the ensemble. I know my photos have improved since the days when I posed all stiff in my office mirror with my cheapy camera; my poses too will improve with time!

This weekend is our seventh wedding anniversary! Tonight we are going to a party (hello overnight babysitter – thanks Mommy!), tomorrow morning there is a community meet-and-greet for little kiddos and their parents, Sunday is the farmers market (in my community, the farmers market is the big weekend social event where you see all your friends and neighbors and catch up) but other than that the weekend is pretty open and I can't wait!

  1. I was just complimenting my husband tonight, that he takes 3-5 pics at most, neither of us look at them until I slap the memory card in the reader.  My pics aren’t eye candy worthy, but they are pretty darn good for 1 minute shoots! 🙂

  2. I didn’t think “sloppy” once when looking at the photos.  I was actually thinking how utterly cute the outfit looks and how I must get a similar shirt to wear with my pencil skirts.  I think it’s perfect for a business casual work setting.

  3. Posing ain’t easy, lady. I have no idea how you do it with such limited time. Most of my shoots take at least 20 minutes, and we throw out 75% of the shots!

You look lovely – and I like the ‘casual friday’ vibe of it, but it’s still professional.

  4. Nope, no jacket.  My office is “business casual” so I am often more dressed up than many of my colleagues.  The very tres stylish director of our office yesterday was only wearing a polo and chinos when he usually is in suits or at least a crisp shirt and suiting trousers. 🙂

  5. Hi Allie

I just found your blog and have been reading back through some of your entries. Here in Edinburgh UK, we are in the high 50’s temperature wise at this time of year. Yesterday it was in the 80’s however, and without aircon our office was very hot. I immediately thought of your blog, and how you manage to stay so stylish despite the warm weather.

I like the fact that your fashion is very stylish, but suited to a mum with a job and kid.

I absolutely love the way you accessorize fairly plain outfits, and turn them into something sensational.

    Very best wishes,
    Primrose

  6. i love this chambray shirt on you & with the black skirt! it’s such a good way to dress it up for work. i may have to go get it, hope they still have it !!! have a wonderful weekend lady ! XO

  7. I think the outfit looks very chic and put together. I have that shirt too and it can be worn casually or for the office. You look great, Allie!

  8. Oooh I’ve been eyeing this shirt at Target — looks great on you! What if you untucked it then belted it at your waist? That might be fun. Enjoy your anniversary weekend — hooray for love & babysitters!

  9. i dont think this outfit looks sloppy at all — i agree with your hubs that you look casual chic. perfect outfit for a friday.  maybe the only thing that looks “off” to me is that i think we are used to seeing you with a belt. i like the outfit without one, but maybe thats what is making it look a little less crisp to you? either way, its a thumbs up from me. 🙂

    and happy anni!
